Cheers for the response. I think your analysis is probably sound. Yet my own gut feeling is that it's still unlikely to translate into a Yes win. At this current time, anyway. As you say, it's all conjecture, and I guess we'll just need to see how things develop.
One thing's for sure, though, the atmosphere around any second referendum, if it comes, is going to be absolutely poisonous, no matter what side people are on.

So the papers are going off about the French today... but seemingly none of them have mentioned that the boat didn't have a licence because someone on the UK side fucked up and removed them from the list that was given to Europe.
So quite within their rights, and quite correct to stop the boat, but never let the facts get in the way of a good bit of jingoism.

Sadly almost zero chance of Scottish independence IMO. A referendum won't be granted by the shower of cunts in Westminster, you can talk all you like about mandates and people's will blah blah but the whole idea of decency and respect no longer exists in the political world daan saaf. Even if it were to take place, everyone would (like the last time) be intimidated into voting no as they're already skint and will be told by every newspaper and a social media onslaught that they'll be poorer. The fact that the Tories are now far more evil and incompetent than ever, have delivered the worst Brexit imaginable and so many policies abhorrent to most Scots yet polls are still with "No" ahead tells you everything. It's sadly a country with a collective fucked ego that's scared shitless and with huge numbers of people (The moron Rangers fan type) that would not vote for independence, no matter what, even if it were "Vote Yes to be independent and not have a nuclear bomb dropped on you or vote no to be annihilated @.

Yes it's the usual pattern now - UK shout and splutter and name call with increasing volume, until eventually the other side bark back, and then UK say 'Well there's no need for that, tone it down a bit. Foreigners eh.' Johnson and co continue to gamble the EU won't eventually just think 'You know what, fuck this, there is no goodwill whatsoever (they even send to negotiate the fucking muppet who made the now apparently hateful deal in the first place), they can have their boats back, and article 16 or whatever other games they want to play, they get third rate status and tariffs on everything and frankly can starve. They'll blame us, but they will do that anyway.' I pray that does happen, because the world currently really, really needs an object lesson in the futility of waving fucking flags, and it would have the massive side benefit of Johnson being dragged out of office - by a hungry mob - and eaten.

So that nonsense trade war trump started with the eu over step has been ended, with tariffs lifted. Except for the U.K, tariffs still stand seeing as we need to strike our own deal, some day, eventually

I know Twitter isn't real life, but it's fairly poisonous at the moment. If I hadn't already switched sides due to events, I think Unionist twitter would push me that way too. It's 70% bots/socks, 10% Tories and 20% Rangers fans. All with a complete personal hatred of Nicola Sturgeon, and that's about it really. On Scottish social media, if you like Brexit, Trump, think CV19 is a hoax/over-egged, vaccines will kill you, deny climate change, you are also guaranteed to be against Independence, with a degree of hate that should have you put on a government watch list. I'm fairly sure most of them are UK Army cyberagents just stirring. Normal people can't devote their whole lives to so much hate.

Yup, it's utterly vile. I'm fairly sure most of them are UK Army cyberagents just stirring. Normal people can't devote their whole lives to so much hate. Yup, even though I'm well aware that the above might sound like tin foil hat territory, this is almost certainly the case with the two largest yoon Twitter accounts that amplify the anti-Sturgeon/SNP hate and disseminate so much of pro-Union/Brexit misinformation and propaganda. I genuinely don't know how you go about countering that. Depressing as hell.

I genuinely hate the Union Jack flag. I can't associate it with anything other than racism and Brexit these days. Especially since Brexit, it's got that same obnoxiousness as the US flag

Especially since Brexit, it's got that same obnoxiousness as the US flag It’s proper shit that the image of the Union Jack has been so thoroughly destroyed. I can’t even remember when it was ever ok to wear a Union Jack t shirt and not be thought of as a national front twat. And there’s a house down our street which has a flagpole and a Union Jack flying - can’t help but assume whoever lives there is a pink-faced gammon twunt. It’s sad.

Interesting. The Union Jack always seemed ok to me, it was the English flag that was the one that seemed racist. Particularly around the time of the london olympics, you saw a huge amount of fashion in Tokyo that incorporated Union Jacks. I still see it from time to time, and I think it has a pretty positive image.
The Harry & Meghan thing tarnished it a bit, but now Japan has done the same thing so whatever. No one here understood Brexit, they all thought that was nuts.
The worrying thing for me here is that most of the news that they pick up from the UK is sourced from the Daily Mail, the Express or the Sun. Their daytime TV shows and also Yahoo News (which is big here) source a lot of stories from those, and I have to keep explaining to people that it's probably bullshit.

It depends how old you are really. Growing up in the 80s the Union Flag was the preserve of the NF, C18 etc. St George's Flag too but to a much lesser degree - and then came Euro96, which meant the St George's was flown for more positive reasons (depending on your view of football). As a football fan, I am quite used to seeing both - but outside of sport, I tend to agree - since the referendum, it's definitely more associated with Little Englander bollocks, including but not limited to racism.

We all got room for a little pre-coffee morning rant about our glorious, totally not lying bastard, media? Widely reported last night and everywhere this morning, and shamefully even in places such as the Guardian, that Macron has backed down over the fishing licenses row with the UK, which is being spun as 'tenacious UK government sees off smelly Frenchies!'.
When in reality the UK entirely folded to French demands, which related to the issuing of some fifty individual permits, yesterday afternoon when the State of Jersey issued the outstanding ones and went to great lengths to demonstrate their amenability to processing more. Those would also be the very same outstanding licenses that Liz Truss literally lied about on BBC News yesterday morning, claiming that ALL licenses had been issued in accordance with the previously agreed deal. Which was patently not the case and was the main thrust of the dispute.
Nah? Cool. As we were then.

This is a bit like all the brexit videos the byline times produce. There is never any damascene moment of revelation for these people. They wish they had voted in because its now affecting them personally. Like the moron in this article. He regrets his vote but goes on to say 'Lets kick up some tarriffs and block renault and citroen cars'. Fucking idiot.

That guy has appeared before, he's the one who said he was convinced because of the big red bus. As usual with these twats, what is best for him is the only criteria. There is not a violin small enough.

This Morrisons packaging doing the rounds this morning is mental. I've been involved in food packaging in the past and the number of people that would have had to approve it before it made it to the shelf is ridiculous.

Yeah. I see their 'official' response on Twitter, via replies to certain tweets, are suggesting that it's a printing error lol
