I can host from my home server if traffic isn’t massive. A mid tier aws Linux build costs around £5 a year to £500 depending on traffic and reserving.
A simple patroon setup is best imo. I’d be happy to pay for a years hosting if we had a few people up for writing a few articles about games.

Yeah I adblock everything on desktop but use the default Android Chrome browser on my phone, and the ads are annoying af
