Jenrick's resignation letter is a disgrace. Although he does make the point that this will just end up in the courts - I'm just not sure what alternative wouldn't have done the same.

Christ it’s just occurred to me that if we get another leadership contest then there’s high chance Suella might be PM. I think that’s the plan behind the resignation

If jenrick was the one holding up the house of cards then this government is even more fucked than we already thought.

If there’s a leadership bid, surely Rishi’s only move remaining is to call a GE

My guess is that was what was behind the 1922 committee. Back me, or I'll chuck you all.under a bus.

Starting 2024 with a January election isn't a Christmas present I put on my list but it'd certainly be a gift I'd really like.

Jenrick quits. God, someone put us out of our misery and call an election before we have to face another Tory leadership change. He really encapsulated the idea of the modern career politician without a shred of integrity, talent, empathy or loyalty. Truly one of the cunts for the ages.

Although I would wish any threat to his leadership would just lead to a GE, I don't think Braverman's support would be big enough to actually cause him to be toppled. The majority surely would not think they could get away with ousting another leader without going to the public, even if they didn't think much of Sunak. That goes doubly if his replacement would be a wacko like Braverman. Feels like a leadership challenge would be worth risking rather than just calling a GE.
Then again, this is the same party that brought us Johnson and Truss, so who knows what they could do next!

He's finished either way, he knows he isn't going to win a leadership election or a general election and he's never going to want to sit on the backbenches if he got ousted.

Just catching up this after coming back from work and... Yvette Cooper, Labour’s home affairs spokeswoman, mocked Sunak. “The only thing stopping the UK government from ignoring international law is the Rwandan government,” she said. (saw it on www.ft.com/content/dff09cc5-0a71-41b8-a12d-d9e352975006)Loooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Braverman's fascism would probably appeal enough to the racist party members so they can overlook the skin colour.
Obviously as soon as things didn't go their way they'd rescind that leeway.

Sunak has by far the lowest support of all cabinet ministers from party membership. I think Kemi Badenoch is now in the top spot, after James Cleverly dropped down after his revealed comments on the Rwanda policy being batshit.

I just don't see what Rishi gains by continuing to be there. Everyone thinks he's a cunt and he has no support from anyone. He's already married to a fuck load of money. Is he just trying to avoid the covid enquiry?

It's not hard to see why when you think about the type of education his ilk has received that instills the belief in its students that they are the country's social betters and ruling is something they're entitled to. Cunts like him believe it's their birthright.

Standard. He can go and hang out with Suella in the No Rishis Club. They're allowed to have One.

I saw the "UK immigration minister quits over Rwanda asylum policy" headline on the BBC and I foolishly assumed someone was finally taking a stand against their draconian policies. But no.
Has the Conservative government of the last 13 years actually achieved anything, or created anything? I can't think of one thing. It feels like even a shitty government that is from a party I don't support should be able to point to at least one positive, life-improving thing that they've done. Even if just by accident.
Their entire philosophy just seems to be against everything. Against benefits. Against taxes. Against immigrants. Against public spending.

Has the Conservative government of the last 13 years actually achieved anything, or created anything? In my brief 30 seconds of thinking about it, I can come up with gay marriage, which likely would have happened anyway. In regards to leadership contests, although I agree if it went to the membership we could be hailing grand empress Braverman, I really don't think it would go that far. Her support amongst MPs isn't high enough to actually lead to it going as far as the members (and, actually, amongst members she isn't hugely popular - Badenoch I believe is the most popular - so not guaranteed she would win if others threw their hat in the ring). The damage that would be done to the party if they had another leadership contest would be huge and they are already in dire straits. Even if he isn't particularly liked by the MPs, I'm sure they would suck it up and stick with him if anyone did try to threaten his leadership. The wing of the party that supports Braverman really isn't as big as the noise they make implies. We are talking about 20 or so MPs, some of which have been given ministerial positions and likely wouldn't think it worth risking.

Stalking bill as well and they MIGHT squeeze something about leaseholds in Stalking bill was a private member’s bill that they supported. Leasehold law was weak and didn’t do what it should have.

Funny as it is, she should know that those last 5 seconds (3 at a push) you are in character. I can't remember who it was, possibly Myrie, whose cue didn't fire and he just held it like a boss. Didn't say a word. Just held his face for about 20 seconds.
