I don't really get why the financial limit for British citizens to bring in spouses is the same as the financial limit for people on temporary work visas. * TBH, I don't really get why there is *any* financial limit for British citizens to bring in spouses.
(apologies if this is a bit selfish on my part)
* I haven't actually seen if this new limit applies to British citizens, but that's what a lot of people are implying/assuming.

All the while Cleverly flies out to try and bend the law to the plan.
What some people will do for free airmiles is a shocker.

I like how we've once again reached the " find out" portion of bad legislation as the second most read news item on the beeb at the mo is presumably panicking a nation of grotty porn goblins and Tory tractor porn afficionados that they're going to have to upload their wank face to a totally-safe-don't-worry-about-it database to access filth

Jenirick was on BBC this morning banging on about these policies and how they're great. Stuff like how people coming here can't bring their families and that's a good thing etc.
At a near £40K cap before you can get in, they don't want the highly skilled workers to be allowed to take dependents and families? So, uh, why would they come here?
This is all despite the fact what we really need is lower income migrants for care homes, nursing etc. It's truly madness.
Also banged on about the public wanting to stop the boats a lot, which I have still yet to hear a non-government minister call for.
Fuckwits the lot of 'em.

This country doesn't have a government any longer it's just a headline generating machine that will say any old shit to try and move the needle in the polls and it's not working. The fundamental problem with this government is that they persistently try to appeal to stupid people so all you are left with is stupid ideas. Its insane. 'The Rwanda Plan will trigger the left'. Yeah, by being basically illegal and thus unworkable, you fucking idiots.

Absolutely feel for you man. I was only going out with my ex when the threshold crept up and she couldn’t get a visa renewed so having this happen to a real family is horrifying stuff. Its crazy. I work in higher education and the type of job someone would need to make the proposed threshold now would be something like a full time lecturing post at a Russell Group university. Basically the kind of thing that they’d need about a decade of experience to even get longlisted for at recruitment stage. There’s no way this isn’t going to get riddled with exceptions and loopholes. As proposed its absolutely unworkable.

I know there are jobs needing filled in the UK but I just wonder why people still want to come to this country.
It's absolutely filled with fucking idiots and racists and that doesn't include the shit show of a government.
Is it really that shit in Europe and beyond?
Everything is so expensive now that so little of what you earn you actually keep for yourself.

Sadly it’s an almost natural human failing that follows times of scarcity isn’t it.

One argument from the government that really bugs me is 'the number of immigrants is too high' without specifying what an acceptable figure is.

One argument from the government that really bugs me is 'the number of immigrants is too high' without specifying what an acceptable figure is. Because anything they say will get twisted into a headline once that number is exceeded.
The frame of reference of the "debate" is wrong. The answer (as was pointed out earlier by simple) is "until the services that require this labour are working properly."

Its this meme but replace 'Im starving' with 'teach me skills'. We bollock on about nurturing domestic talent but not only do we do fuck all about it, we actually make our education and training infrastructure worse

Dowden recommending we stock up on batteries and candles for the winter - and not for children’s presents and atmosphere. Very reassuring.

There's fuck all in place to train people in Britain. Apprenticeships, Level 2 and 3 courses - all a fucking shambles.
You've got employers saying the courses don't prepare learners well enough and they're unskilled.
So, unless the government wants to actually fund these things they are gonna need immigrants

For those racists who want zero immigration but a working health sector/economy: Do the job yourselvesWill see if this pipe dream is ever realised. I suppose a lame government can dream up any scenario as long as they know they won't be around to oversee it.

There is a valid argument that businesses should be training these people up, or pay the taxes to fund it.

I'm my trade (NHS radiographer) the salary minimum will mean that we can only recruit Band 6 (eg senior) staff from other countries. But to get to that level you should be able to manage a team, know the policies and procedures inside out etc etc... who can do that without any experience? So how are they supposed to pass an interview and get selected?
If they do get employed, there are obviously fewer senior roles than junior, so those staff wanting to get promoted and improve themselves will leave.
I'm sure it's the same for nursing etc. It's a completely self defeating policy (unless you want to stealth privatize the healthcare system hey wait what?)

Rees Mogg recently went from previously having said "we can pick our own fruit" to "we don't need fruit pickers, as we can just import fruit". I wonder how long it will take to go from "we can fill the NHS with our own people" to "we don't need an NHS".

Stealth privatisation of the NHS has been occurring for years. I believe it’s an inevitability, not a possibility sadly.
If your not over the cost to age tipping point a private healthcare plan is looking increasingly like a safe plan of action.

There's no guarantee of treatment and they seem to say "jog on" for stuff that requires you to actually be treated long term

I haven't heard of a 'private' A&E department (in the UK). Unless I'm wrong... ✌️

Isn’t that Adam Kay’s argument in This Is Going To Hurt?
All the comfy seats and luxury meals private facilities offer but the second something goes wrong you’re getting blue lighted to A&E because nowhere private is built or resourced to cater for emergency care

They don't even pretend otherwise: medicaltravelmarket.com/news/private-urgent-care-emergency-services-in-londonQuote: "" The hospitals mentioned in this article are London’s leading private urgent care centres providing quick medical attention for people suffering from minor injuries and non-life-threatening incidents. These do not replace emergency NHS services for life-threatening conditions. If you are experiencing a life-threatening condition such as a sign of a heart attack, stroke, head injury, burns, major trauma, bleeding during pregnancy or breathing difficulties, please visit your nearest NHS A&E (see London map below) or dial 999 for immediate attention.
