That’s an old headline, I expect the boy Jones has been vocally critical of Starmer’s temerity to mention Thatcher

Reading this article about the political malaise in parts (probably a lot) of the country, in this case Hull, is pretty depressing and then it somehow gets worse.
Ashley Harrison, owner of Marfleet Bargain Centre and cafe, says he won’t vote and is scathing about all politicians. “None of them know what they’re doing,” he says. “You’ve got idiots running the country having parties while we were all in lockdown. Why should we vote for any of them? I don’t. I’ve given up now.
“I don’t want Starmer in and I don’t want them continuing who’s in now. I’ve always said England needs a Trump, an English version of Trump.”
It's syndicated copy from The i so hopefully the link works.

I'm assuming BoJo was too much of a neighborly, approachable bro to count, in his mind?

thing is, there'll always be ~10-20% of fuckwits who think like that. not saying you ignore them, but you don't go chasing their votes. the Tories will hopefully lose big next year and the message they'll take from it is "we weren't batshit enough for the ukip/farage/reform/trump crowd - add more guano" and the twats won't think to appeal to those who to varying degrees on varying issues could be described as centrist

It also helps it you're so sick of the current system that has done nothing for you where you think a disruptor like Trump is better than nothing. Racism probably helps too.

It seems like most people don't change their political views, just how politically active they are. The malaise being described is probably from a lot of people who were recently excited by brexit as a way to change things, but now they've seen that the political classes haven't changed, so they've become disengaged again.

Gonna bump up that minimum earning threshold for work visas from 26k to possibly 35k per year, that’ll be good. Less people able to fill up those 900,000 job vacancies and pay taxes

Also it entrenches the disparity between north and south. Wages lower in north so companies won't be able to employ foreign workers in order to grow,

Also a ban on care workers bringing dependents with them, because the care sector has clearly been having too easy a ride with getting staff!

That should close the loophole of people having families just so they can come over here and clean our shit-encrusted hospital toilets. How very dare they.
