He, Cameron and Sunak all took individual private jets to COP28 so let’s not canonise Charles too soon.

Why have 2 jags when you can have 3 jets?

We can afford to lose two of the three, just keep one, if we really have to.

If I was Charles I wouldn’t want to risk spending more time with those cunts then I have to either.

If I was Charles I wouldn’t want to risk spending more time with those cunts then I have to either. A friend of mine has been invited to number 10 for an event and is currently asking our WhatsApp group if he should go or decline. We have told him sometimes you must climb into bed with your enemy. But no spooning.

That's the sort of invitation you really want to ask if you can defer for a year.

If the event is helping Sunak pack then I'd say go for it.

Gimpus Has Fallen protocol I can't see the Menai Bridge protocols being in place as London Bridge. I give Brian less than 10 years.

In what world is it necessary for a Labour leader to heap praise on Thatcher of all people?

He’s just undermining the Tories. Blair did the same.
It’s basically telling Tory voters that the current lot ain’t up to the standard of your hero, are they really worthy of your vote?

And it's not really 'heaping praise'. He's said he doesn't agree with what she did but admires that she had a vision and determination to carry it out. Nothing really wrong with that, and highlights the current bunch who have neither of those things.
Still, facts don't matter when purity is at stake.

Aye, seems the news reporters today have decided they will latch onto this fairly non-story about a single line in an article. An article that is clear written for a Tory audience, what with it being written in the Telegraph.
Although, if the commentators that are talking about it lots today are using it as a way to attack Starmer, I'm not sure how effective it will. As much as those on the left may hate the fact (I would include myself there), the general public opinion on Thatcher is mostly positive, with her regularly being rated highly in greatest PMs or, even, greatest Brits.

As much as those on the left may hate the fact ..., the general public opinion on Thatcher is mostly positive, with her regularly being rated highly in greatest PMs or, even, greatest Brits. I'm wondering if that's changing? I spent most of her reign of terror pretending I was a dinosaur and sticking play-doh in plug sockets but my in-laws were always singing her praises, yet in the last ~five years or so they've started noting that maybe privatisations were not such a good thing, and suggesting that councils should have some council houses. It's like a lot of the things she's known for have taken ~40 years to reveal themselves, even to those ideologically aligned, as shite. They'll still vote for for whoever's got a blue rosette mind, and I don't think that'll ever change regardless of what nice things Starmer says about Thatcher.
Guess the other thing is demographics - if I've done my sums right you'd have to be 54+ to have ever had a chance to vote for her and probably 74+ to have ever been likely to. She's increasingly irrelevant, and the demographic who love her most are increasingly dead.

The shine of Thatcher started to wear off even for Thatcher's Children with the Poll Tax, her intransigence was her downfall not only within the country but the party too.
She still had a lot of support in the South but everyone knew it was over really.
As much as people can hate on her, for a lot of good reasons, she did at least have goals she wanted to achieve rather than feckless, criminal scum we've got in charge now.

There are plenty of previous world leaders that have had a vision and a determination to carry it out.
Wonder how many of those that people can think of did good things with that.

it's an interesting question, I guess Mandela is the obvious answer though i'm well aware one needs to skirt over many ANC activities
several northern ireland politicians had a vision & determination to get to the GFA and a few world leaders (Bruton, Major, Blair, Clinton etc) deserve credit for seeing it through on their watch
Lech Walesa maybe? Don't know enough Polish current affairs beyond the little I picked up (ie. first democratic elections, nobel peace prize etc)

Hitler had a vision and a determination to carry it out, should he be lauded for that?
Sorry, a bit of hyperbole.

Don't think Hitler had a democratic mandate to do everything he did but I suppose we're at the "compare Thatcher to Hitler" stage of the discussion.

Yeah Hitler made use of loopholes and wormed his way to power. Thatcher won numerous elections.
