Haha omg that's so weird. Fun fact - I found out someone I know was a member of the young Tories and has shared knowledge that Carrie has been on the scene for a fucking while, working out who best to mate with. While I detest the tories as much as the next person, can we keep this level of sexism out of it? It’s clearly bollocks and continues the classic misogynistic trope that shes a woman and thus she has to have slept her way to the top. As a father of two daughters I agree with your sentiment however I've read a fair few things about Carrie that support his post. Plus her mum had an affair with Matthew Symonds in similar circumstances. Its okay to say that sometimes some women can be bad people... For balance men can be much be worse.

Or you know, we're all cunts to a degree. Regardless of gender, ethnicity and disability.

Johnson will be moving on soon enough I'm sure when he realises his political career is pretty much done so he doesn't have to keep up the pretense.

I keep seeing it as Brendan Rogers and having flashback. On topic - all my Tory sex goss comes from a woman. And sometimes, I've discovered, they can be absolute cunts as well. /Insert Mrs Merton meme

I'm sure we had swine flu before about over a decade ago. I was living in Japan during their Swine Flu panic in 2009, but as the media called it Mexican flu they seem to have decided only foreigners were a risk and everywhere previously foreigner friendly started barring foreigners. Was a localised panic though as I just left Osaka and went to Tottori for an overnight trip in the next prefecture where they seemingly didn't care.

fucks sake can we just have a grown-up in charge please rather than a petulant little prick?
marbles should be returned but even if the political position is that they won't then the diplomatic response to enquiries is "discussions are ongoing, areas of difference remain", not throwing a fucking teenager strop

I don't remember that happening at all in Tokyo. Though the general thing of assuming foreigners are a risk was alive and well during the coronavirus period, at least at the beginning.

We definitely didn't do that over here. Anybody vaguely Chinese looking was treated perfectly normally.

There really is no other argument for keeping them other than "we're British and better than you."

It will have been around end of June, start of July 2009 IIRC, all schools and unis in Osaka closed, but Tottori was normal...

Didn't have kids at that point, so I dunno about schools, but I don't remember anything from the 2009 Swine Flu affecting me in any way. I remember it being all over the news, and people talking about it a lot, but no practical impact in Tokyo. At least not enough for me to remember it.

Starmer asks why the PM humiliated the Greek PM by cancelling his meeting with him.
Sunak says it became clear that the Greek PM just wanted to grandstand. And he said he went back on an assurance (about what would be said in public about the Parthenon marbles). Sunak says, when he makes agreements with people, he expects people to keep them.
He's just not a very good politician is he?

He's made loads of agreements he's not kept to. That ZEV by 2030 changed to 2035 fucked off all the car manufacturers for one. HS2.

Generally the Elgin Marbles is the ultimate slow news day issue so it’s a little surprising to see it be a thing at the moment with so much else going on.
I think the British Museum in general needs a significant rethink. It’s literally a huge celebration of colonisation and theft of significant cultural items. The Marbles are the tip of the iceberg.

If that string gets pulled there will be nothing left in the museum.
I'm all for it but I'd feel for the people at the museum when the floodgates do open on repatriation.

It's written into law that the British Museum can't 'dispose' of its artefacts, but the wind is changing and a 'loan' or similar seems to be the sensible option.
If it was a chunk of Stonehenge sitting in a foreign museum, the Tories would be losing their shit!

(Not that our guys are strangers to grandstanding to be fair, but come on, the Tories teach evening school classes on the art...)

The museum itself could still effectively be exactly the same thing, but not actually “own” the exhibits and just loan them like every other museum in the world. These days it could also do a lot more with digital interactions and AR/VR and that sort of thing.
It just needs a bit of a rethink and modernisation. It doesn’t have to cease to exist.
