A couple of them would sometimes ping me with shit like "I need to drop out at 1pm to go to a doctor appointment" or some other noise. I would have to remind them that them telling me was wasting both their time and mine. Aw, they're probably hoping you show a passing interest in their wellbeing and you're like "fuck off Barry"..

Interesting that despite how politically engaged we are, there's been zero mention 9f the autumn statement. Tax cuts and all. It will make such limited difference to most people.

I think it's £565 a year if you earn over 40k ish.

I guess £565 as a lump sum would be nothing to complain about. But spread over a year, with the price increases of everything, it's fairly insignificant.

Haven't had a chance to look at the detail of it yet, but I think it's a sensible move. I don't really care about the "woo more spending money" aspect of it, but the combination of fiscal drag from income tax bands staying the same and NI being cut means it's a move towards reducing how much tax on income is Income Tax (with a capital I) and how much is NI.
This matter because NI is a fucking stupid tax. It's a tax on jobs, and it's a tax on productive income. We tax passive income lighter than tax on labour. If I was in charge, I'd abolish NI completely and make up the difference by increasing income tax rates.
This needs to be a sustained strategy over years though.
Truth is that we're not really taxed enough in this country for the level of services we demand and expect. Tax cuts should be targeted towards simplification and rationalisation. This might be a side-effect rather than the indented plan, but I'll take it.

Agree fully with the last para. I have more of an issue as how the tax take is used. And the polls suggest most people are worried about public services. So whilst they might see an extra £50 a month, if they're waiting months for their hospital appointment, they're not going to care much.

Lowering tax just to be able to say you lowered the tax on the impending election campaign

So, not really much help considering the increasing costs at the moment, but I'm sure the Daily Mail will be hearlding it as a budget for the working people come the morning.

Lowering tax just to be able to say you lowered the tax on the impending election campaign Despite it only being worth a quarter of the tax rises in the last 4 years. It's no wonder we're all struggling.

An extra £30 a month? That makes Gamepass and PS+ premium basically free, what's to complain about?

I mean, if fiscal drag sees you paying an extra 40 quid a month, and the leccy bill has gone up 50 a month and the waiting list for yer mum's knee op is 18 months long I can see why some might complain...

I decided today that I really wasn't too interested in Jeremy Cunt's tinkering to try and curry favour for the next election so have pretty much ignored the Autumn statement. The only thing I want to hear from this government is that Parliament is being dissolved and we'll be voting the fuckers out, everything else is just noise.

Some speculation that May is looking more likely. Time enough for people to clock the meagre extra cash (offset by an increase in energy costs...) but not long enough for the wheels to come off elsewhere.
Labour are going to have to highlight why a cut in NI ain't all that.

Yeah, the push to get that change done and dusted in January rather than April suggests they want to have an election a few months after.
Alternatively, there are rumours Hunt is going to be out as Chancellor soon, so maybe there was an agreement that he could be seen as the figurehead of getting this done before he leaves the post. Or they are expecting more hard times next year and want out before those hit.

Not quite sure what Hunt has "achieved" or was even trying to achieve. It doesn't seem like it pleases anyone.

Labour are going to have to highlight why a cut in NI ain't all that. Ya boi Martin Lewis was just on the TV saying this is the only reason he could think of that Hunt did this. Buying the middle class vote with an almost unnoticable amount of money.

Apparently Cameron only agreed to come on if he was given a year in the job. So autumn would make more sense.
Who knows..

That extra tenner a week will almost cover the cost of a Boots Meal Deal for the extra day you'll soon be forced back into the office for

Sunak will go when he thinks the timing is best for him, the window is closing and he can't be worrying about one person he gave a job to no matter what he may have promised, I can't see how Autumn next year is going to make anything turn around in his favour.

Also see the head of Ofsted says schools have "broken the social contract with parents".
Doesn't blame herself or her organisation though. All schools fault.
