Sadly most YouGov polls show more people support the Rwanda policy than oppose it. Can't see it going away any time soon.

Good god, why do I watch PMQs.
Staggering that all Rishi can do is "but what about Jeremy Corbyn?!".

"I spoke to several colleagues and I know six who have said to me that they’re putting letters in today, so that’s seven we now know about. I’ve had lots of constituents contact me who are really frustrated, and actually when I put my letter in, I had hundreds of people from all over the country saying thank you for doing this. I’ve wrestled with this, the fact that we could look very stupid toppling another leader, but I think we’ve got to bite the bullet now." Andrea Jenkyns has had responses from "hundreds" of people, HUNDREDS. I wonder how many of those hundreds were people on twitter with lots of numbers after their name.

Superb questions today.
And this was probably the best joke ever:
"Starmer says Sunak sees himself as the first AI PM. But his big idea is to keep turning the government on and off and hope that will generate signs of life."

That's because the government and press have done a great job of making everyone think asylum seekers are all illegal immigrants who are coming to steal your jobs and rape your womens. Oh and also to live a life of luxury on benefits.

"If I force legislation through Parliament, declaring that Rwanda is a safe place for refugees after all, this will suddenly become legal!"
Are we sure Cruella was the crazy one? I mean, she was *a* crazy one, but Sunak's doing his best impression of someone whose grip on the plot is becoming more tenuous by the day.

There's a lot of rhetoric but little time to do anything meaningful. It'll sit on the statute books, unused.

Mere posturing or not, it shows Sunak is basically as vile as Braverman, albeit perhaps with less glee about being cruel. He had an easy out on the whole disgusting scheme by just blaming Braverman for it and distancing himself, but he has chosen to dive fully into it.

He’s already done plenty to show he’s an awful person. He’s just so bland and well spoken that he gets away with it.

I think some of the press and the Tories try to make out that British people enjoy unnecessary cruelty. I doubt it's the truth though and people are mostly just fine. Not saints but not pantomime villains like Braverman. I suspect various things like polling on Rawanda are affected by a few things. They've been assured it's fine there and don't have the time or inclination to look into it. They're busy trying to work out how to heat their home or feed their family, so charity is just thin on the ground now. Finally it's actually not that important to them, the top priority is the NHS etc. so the attitude is more whatever than actively for it. Lots of long term attitudinal surveys give the impression British people are way more liberal than Europeans or Americans in general. So I suspect the culture war bollocks is attempting to be sown on barren ground, the next election will be NHS waiting lists and the cost of living. Not trans rights, not Rawanda, not Gaza. Basically people are boring.

Can we ban the word "falling" when used with the word inflation. It's a completely misleading word and it's really getting on my tits that even when journalists are making great efforts to state that prices are still rising, just slower than before, they still use what is clearly the government's choice of word "falling" when describing what's happened.

Simon Jenkins is a fucking bellend. Who writes books about pretty churches and any architecture after 1800 being shit I'm his spare time.
Also inflation is falling. It's technically correct. It's just most people and most journalists are so mathematically illiterate that a derivative function is beyond them. See also velocity Vs acceleration. Or actually velocity Vs speed.

The vote on an amendment that would do precisely zero to actually bring about a ceasefire in the conflict just seems pretty pointless.

"Cutting inflation is a tax cut!" Is quite possibly one of the most stupid things I've heard this government actually say this year and there's so much to choose from.

I like inflation slowing better. This. It still treats it in velocity terms and gets across that it's on an upward trajectory.

My conspiracy hat sees it as a move by the SNP to try and divide labour on a hot button issue. The whole thing’s so weird. Obviously neither Hamas nor the Israeli government give a shit who says there should be a ceasefire. Nobody’s even defined the terms of a ceasefire might even be. It’s all just performative nonsense, but yes absolutely a way to divide Labour. I’m somewhat surprised any of them have fallen for it but I guess it’s just about their constituents and what they want.

It'll probably all be forgotten about in hardly any time at all and I doubt the general public really gives a shit too much about what some people in Westminster have voted on when 8 billion people on the planet know it wasn't going to achieve anything.

My conspiracy hat sees it as a move by the SNP to try and divide labour on a hot button issue. That's not even a conspiracy hat. It's just what it is. I feel sympathy with people wanting a ceasefire. But it's not like anyone involved gives a fuck of the opinion of any non governmental UK party, they probably don't give much of a fuck about the actual UK government. Also ceasefires require 2 parties. Does anyone trust Hamas do uphold their side of it for more than the amount of time it takes for them to rearm? Rule of acquisition 109 your dignity in a sack is worth the sack, same thing as a ceasefire with Hamas. There's no good answer.

Yeah, does feel like SNP just want to cause problems for Labour, who are their real opposition in Scotland. Plus, I expect the SNP would be quite happy for another Tory government in Westminster to piss off the Scottish people.
As already said, it is all a bit pointless. Calling for a cease-fire isn't going to be listened to by Israel (and certainly not by Hamas). Labour would hope that they actually have to sit at a table with Israel at some point in the not to distant future, something that won't go particularly well if they followed the lead of those shouting for what seems very much like a one-sided cease-fire.
As ever with some of Labour and a few of its "supporters" the need to look pure and on the right side is more important than existing in reality.
