As I understand it, the licenses don't even mean there will be drilling. It's just a license to look for it and most of the time they don't find anything. It's a meaningless policy that's only purpose is to wind up one group and allow another group to gloat. It's really not meaningless. Even if it doesn't lead to a single additional gram of carbon entering the atmosphere, it still sets a terrible precedent, and sends an awful message to consumers, to producers, and to the rest of the world. It's a criminal act, beyond criminal. Maybe meaningless is the wrong word and certainly don't disagree with you that the messaging is terrible. Also diverts attention, money and time away from what they should be focusing on when it comes to energy policy.

Braverman's op-ed in tomorrow's Times should get her sacked but as Sunak is a weak POS it probably won't.

This is absolutely mad. The cunts that would have been NF/BNP members 10 years ago, or just straight up football hooligans are all over this and organising as a direct result of the hangover level bile she is spouting, to turn up and start shit on Saturday. And she's managed to get 2 or 3 newspapers to amplify it enough that it's almost guaranteed to happen. She actually wants to spark a riot.

How have we managed to have a PM and Home Secretary without a spine between the two of them. I'd argue that her spine of raw untalented hateful ambition*, and his lack of spine is the issue here. She's inciting hatred against peace marches, homeless people and charities, yet he cannot call her out or sack her as a result of being even weaker than Liz fucking Truss
*I spent too much of my youth in Fareham, her constituency, and it fits. It was, and remains a weird mix of people with nothing that will blame whoever they are asked to - largely by the Sun because that is what they bought, and now it is roughly their online news - for their ills because they are too preoocupied with the day to day of existence to devote enough attention to the real causes, and the pure Tory member cunts that will pull the ladder up, burn it, and then seek to fire the burning charcoal into the eyes of those near their estate. Very wealthy people, and very, very poor people in a mad mix of voting for this absolute vomit of humanity. She has not one redeeming quality. It baffles, exasperates and incites me. I have family in Fareham and she Does. NOT. REPRESENT. WHAT. THEY. NEED. But they won't vote, because they don't have the time on the day, or they're all the same, or the darts is on, or Melinda is acting up, or Mervyn needs to go bait digging, or, more realistically, they never registered anyway and wouldn't even if they had the mental bandwidth in amongst all the payday issues, school problems, financial constraints and fuck's sake Jessica's cat needs a small operation And these bastards are banking on that

Jess is fantastic Shit, she's at least 14 now. She has a condition that stops her growing so I forget. She's like 1.1m tall so whenever she opens her mouth and smacks your face with facts there's a tiny moment where you have to remind yourself that this kid has spent all her days gorging herself on history and I should shut the hell up and listen until she asks me a question
Amd I will say, I don't know

I don’t agree with her stoking divisions policy; however I may agree with her pissing off Unionists by comparing them to terrorists policy

We're already working all hours and having days off cancelled to deal with all the shit occuring on these marches. They were bad enough without Braverman bussing in the ARE TOMMY brigade. Genuinely starting to get worried about what could happen this weekend.

It’s been standard Tory operating procedure for decades. Fuck around with things and manufacture failure. Then introduce reform as the answer.
See: British Rail, British car industry, Steel, NHS, BBC etc ad infinitum

She actually said something this morning that I agree with (I know. I feel dirty)
Bravverman is trying to get Sunak to fire her so that she can be the darling of the right and mount a leadership bid.

Its been clear since he re-hired her that she is gunning for leader of the opposition. At this point shes just Secretary For Daily Mail Briefings and The Times Soundbites.
Of the many, many, many mistakes Sunak made giving her any kind of prominence is probably going to be the biggest milstone around his neck.

Has there ever been a Home Secretary that attacked their own Police force so vehemently?
And the right wing press are practically frothing at the mouth at Saturday's march; I can almost taste the bile when I read some of today's front pages.
I still don't understand the outrage? What is so offensive about holding a protest on Armistice day (or any other day of the year, for that matter)?

She can be leader all she likes, she won't fucking win an election They have had so many do-overs they have forgotten that leaders win/lose elections. It would might actually be good for the country to have that lunatic hectoring Starmer for four years. Anything he does or says will sound reasonable.

what I can't grasp is the politics of it - in the 00's the common complaint was "they're all the same" as lab & con both went for the centre ground, now we have a labour party trying to at least appear centre ground and being 20 points ahead for their efforts, and the loudest tory response to their centre support bleeding away is to abandon the centre and go full nutter
anyway, my nostrodamus position remains that sunak will be on a plane to california within 24 hours of losing the next general, braverman won't win tory leadership because (a) some members are racist, (b) some members (still) are centre-ish, (c) some members are self interested cunts but aren't stupid
braverman's aim seems to be to secure a gig on GBeebies
my guess remains her constituency neighbour (if she keeps her seat), Penny Mourdant, will be elected as to the tory membership she's not brown, wider potential support base, and some weird thirsty nonsense about swords

Because we should remember the people who fought authoritarian regimes so that we could have the freedom to protest. What better way to mark it than by banning a protest in an authoritarian manner.
