Anyway I got a job (not teaching) shorty afterwards so never returned but his smug response has always stayed with me.

They are civil servants getting paid a pittance to deliver a service (much like teachers). Some are passing through, some are long time servants but very few don't try and do a good job. I did it for 3 years and provided me with a brilliant foundation for my career and met some great people who I am still in touch with today. I enjoyed it a lot and wouldn't have changed it. It was probably just a flippant remark but clearly didn't think. |
