Not sure what's so odd about the tweet really. Will he quit before he dies is all it's asking. Maybe the terminology is a bit strange but it's a lot of nothing.
It's pretty tasteless but that's on brand for GB news.

There's no such thing as a full term for a monarch, he could abdicate tomorrow and he would have fulfilled his obligations or drop dead in 25 years just before his 100th birthday.

Yeah like I said strange terminology but I expect GB news will have come out with something far more stupid this week already

In a vaguely similar vein, I find the use of the term "not my king" by the protestors today a bit weaksauce.
They're trying to echo the "not my president" thing when trump was elected, but kings aren't elected and as much as they want to deny it the guy is still technically their king. What's wrong with saying "end the monarchy" or something else along those lines?

'Not my king' makes it about them.

It implies they would simply prefer a different monarch

Wait until they find out that she actually died 8 years ago and it's been a combination of animatronics and deep fakes that kept her around for as long as she was.

I’m thinking I should have a Not My Country banner but most people would assume is mean something different to my intention.

I wouldn't hold that one up while Truss is about. If ever you didn't want to give someone the wrong idea.

The ironic thing about that is that Trump wouldn't pay her the slightest attention, because she's a brown woman.

I read something yesterday about the fact that all living Prime Ministers have to attend certain events like wreath laying at the Cenotaph, royal weddings, funerals etc She’s 47, so assuming she lives to be 80: Cenotaph wreath laying will tot up to 33 attendances. Chuck in Charlie and Camilla’s funerals, William’s coronation, three royal weddings for william’s kids and you’re up to 39, only ten short of how many days she spent in office

You’ve forgotten all the practices as well, so she will end up spending more time doing them than she was in charge.

I've gotta say that some of the anti-protest bullshit that the police pulled (enabled by the current scummy government) is deeply concerning.
I mean, even past Conservative governments, faced with things like poll tax protests etc.. balked at simply arresting people based on the suspicion that they might possibly be planning to protest, maybe.
The UK has had protests for hundreds of years, and it's always been considered a necessary, if not important part of being a free democracy. The UK has also had a lot of international clout when it comes to things like Human Rights (t least until recently). But quite how the UK can criticise countries like Russia or Iran when the UK is implementing similar measures is beyond me.
Pretty shameful, and a shame that it seems to have been mostly eclipsed in the UK by the media going nuts over the Coronation.

The arrest of Republic members was quite clearly pre-planned.
Radio 4 doing themselves no favours:
This arrest of the Night Safety team volunteers was appalling:
Members of Animal Rising were arrested at a non-violence training event several miles away:

All this is the fault of the Conservatives and anyone who voted for them. Blaming anyone else let’s them get away with it.

Turns out there’s going to be no further action against the arrested Republic protest organisers. Its almost as if someone just wanted them out of the way for the weekend.

It's really disgusting what happened to them and it should be making more of splash then it seems to be (likely because I expect there is large section of the public that support what the police did).
One of the most disturbing parts is the communication Republic had with the police beforehand, where indications were everything was all fine. The only conclusions I can come up with are:
a) the police knowingly lied to them and were always planning to make arrests. With my zero legal expertise, this sounds like entrapment.
b) the person or people they were speaking to didn't understand the rules.
c) the police making the arrests didn't understand the rules. This seems less likely, as it was clearly a coordinated operation.
d) somebody told them they had to shut down the protests after the conversations with Republic had taken place. That somebody (and I'm assuming the Home Office) wanted arrests to be made to show they were cracking down on protests (see earlier point on my assumption that many in the public agree with it being done).

a) is irrelevant if they didn’t charge them, although they’d probably have a case for something to do with their rights
b and c both seem very likely.
