Just back from the polling station, and I hadn't intended to hold onto my ID when presnted, but I did. Didn't lead to any akwardness, nor did they ask about the ballots afterwards. I didn't hold onto it, but I did go to take it back after she had been looking at for a few seconds, assuming that was all she needed. We ended up both holding it for another extended period of time. No real awkwardness, but was a bit weird. She commented that it didn't look like me, which I took as friendly banter, but perhaps she really wasn't sure if it was me or not.

Meanwhile, a rare, rare sighting of the lesser spotted, situationally-aware Tory...
Blimey.

He's one of the few Tories who hasn't got drunk at the font of Brexit, and been kicked out.

He's one of the few Tories who hasn't got drunk at the font of Brexit, and been kicked out. True. Apart from the Tory thing, he seems like quite a rational person. Francis would probably have a stern word, but Ellwood is an actual ex-Army officer rather than one for effect, so he's probably too scared. They'll have to deselect him, now, instead. Can't upset the magic Brexit train.

Voted around lunch time in a local church hall.
Was asked to put up to three Xs on one piece of paper, and up to five Xs on the other. Have to confess, I'm not completely sure why.
Anyway, I don't mind publicising here that it was my usual mix of "Green if you can do so, Lib Dems if there's no Green".
I feel glad I went.

Oddly, I got a labour leaflet a week ago to my actual name (I did vote labour at the last GE as the "not Boris, most likely to beat the tories" option but never signed up for anything else). However, when I checked the local options it turns out my area wasn't even voting so very confused... I think currently we have 3 independent councillors (at least we did when we tried to protest the dodgy planning permission for a KFC that ultimately failed).

We had a lib dem candidate around last night trying to make out that they were the best chance of beating the tories despite us already having a labour council, the lying bastard.

At least labour haven't fielded anyone in our ward, as they don't want to split the vote with the lib dems.

Voting in one ward has been suspended because the candidate died this morning after the polls had opened.
If he’d died before 7am the election would have proceeded as normal

Our town has been inundated with independents who are all members of a Facebook group that was created purely for the purpose of reinstating a roundabout that was replaced with traffic lights. They're all weird incel types who have goaded each other into running because they've convinced themselves that they know how to fix the town, while spreading malicious lies about the councillors and then blocking the councillors when they try to confront any of the lies. It's all a bit weird.

At least you know what your independent stands for. I didn’t know one was running here until I saw their name on the ballot paper this morning. No leaflet, nothing.

It's all a bit weird. We now have a local party with similar origins, although they are all ERG/right of Mogg types rather than incels, but exhibit similar behaviour as described. There was a big to-do when one of their candidates reported being bullied out and defected to Labour. There's like a cheerleader gang that then goes onto all the local FB groups putting 'crying laughing emojis' everywhere and spreading vitriol which IMO has courted the line of proper hate/vaguely physically threatening. All over the fact the main town in the borough (which still has a sh*ttier town centre than us) got a Next and a small cinema. They had quite a lot of success last time but still haven't actually done anything to bridge this perceived gap. Hopefully they'll get smashed at this election, although I never think highly of local councillors of any party to be honest.

I'm on a local "friends" group on Facebook, it's useful if you want to sell a couch or get an update on roadworks in the area.
Had a few people asking where they can vote and being advised that there are no elections in London it's other regions in the UK. Didn't really sink in, "But I saw an advert!" "Wat do you mean I got to wait till next? I wanna vote now! Someone needs to investigate this!
People's understanding of the process is a bit disheartening but maybe it reflects a potential upturn in voter turnout, hopefully that continues into 2025.

The voter ID thing has really riled me after going out tonight. Our station is at a pub surrounded by low income housing that I just know will have a large proportion of people that can't produce accepted ID, just the sorts of people it's designed to disenfranchise.
Also sadly the people with the most to lose who probably won't try to vote anyway.

UKIP almost eradicated from British politics. They’ve lost two of the five councillors they had.

Happy to see the Tories have had little success here, and that the Greens* have made some headway. Labour generally dominating though and hopefully that will carry over to the GE. *No real love for them but they got my vote to get a number on the board and keep the green agenda on the table, and felt a little bit hypocritical as I drove my SUV out the car park for the 3 minute drive home but I'm sick so fuck you judgmental brain.

Hah, Medway is a surprising one for them to lose. First time ever.
I can tell I'll get no work done this morning constantly checking for updates on how badly the Tories are doing.
