Yeah, its not just the politicians themselves, its their lapdogs in the media, using all the apparatus at their disposal to disparage any 'others'.
I say 'their lapdogs'. They devour each other like an ouroboros snake made of turds.

TBF to Johnson he is a venal, corrupt and cunt of a man without an ounce of empathy in his bones so I'm not not going to blame him for staying true to his character.

Those Mark Francois quotes are quite something. This Mark Francois? The one who's on video threatening people in the street? Man's a fucking embarrassment.

It really is amazing how he fits the sterotypical profile of someone who was in the TA.

It really is amazing how he fits the sterotypical profile of someone who was in the TA. Six years. He was in the TA for 6 years. A part timer. An occasional solider. Yet he plays on it like he's a genuine hard man. A proper Walt.

Soooooo Heat Pumps, Mum has one in New Zealand and I can't say I'm blown away by the powaaaa! Being a weatherboard villa doesn't help but there was no comparison to central heating.
Just can't see there being a lot of apartments or flats with the space to have a massive external pump on the outside. Not too mention the fact a lot of properties would probably need new pipes possibly radiators and plumbing work so installation cost makes it impractical.
I'm all for a greener planet but a £5k subsidy really only seems to benefit homeowners with plenty of dosh in relatively new well insulated housing and plenty of space. Strange policy from a Tory party. Oh wait.

Yeah, Im Joe Middleclass and this will, unsurprisingly, work out pretty well for us. Our boiler is about 15 years old and a bit shit (its at the stage where if you touch *any* setting, it stops heating water entirely) so we were looking at a new combi which wouldnt be far off what this would cost with subsidies.
We have enough room to get one instaled and a wall we can hide it behind and make the neighbours look at it.
All in all, we will probably go for it, if possible. Shame I fucking hate the tories, really, because they try really hard to get my vote.

Makes more sense for apartment buildings to have an industrial sized one. Maybe residents/landlords could pool cash. Not sure how well it would work retrofitting older apartment buildings though.

I'm all for getting rid of gas, but GCH does work. Whereas, previous electric fired heating (storage heaters etc) have been rubbish and expensive. I might be up for it in future if it works, the electricity provision is genuinely green and it doesn't cost substantially more than gas (pre-insanity) central heating does.

Need to consider the air-tightness of your home too. Newer houses will be suitable for this, but older, like mine, will not. It is a new stress to start thinking about!

Our house was supposedly insulated like ten odd years ago when they had that insulation push but I saw the cowboys who did the house we were living in at the time so dunno if it would be good enough.
The windows are relatively new though so, I dunno. Come March I’ll get some quotes/have a survey.

The Feds raiding Oleg Deripaska's house in the States over Russian interference in the presidential elections could have some nice effects in the UK.

I am planning on getting a heat pump when we do our extension, hopefully next year.
Edwardian terraced house in London, with solid walls.
Expect we will need to do a bit of internal wall insulation, but almost all the windows are double/secondary glazed and the loft extension caps the house well already. Also maybe lay new floors for UFH on the ground floor - they are draughty as shit anyway!!!
It's not likely economical, except if you factor in likely big energy increases (and we will have solar also), but it's for my kids future. We also do bloomin reusable nappies.

We also do bloomin reusable nappies. How do you find them? I'm keen on them but partner thinks they'll be too much work. (I've already bought a few to try when baby arrives, which I feel is a win.)

Take a shit on one of your bath towels and then try to clean it off as a test run.

We also do bloomin reusable nappies. How do you find them? I'm keen on them but partner thinks they'll be too much work. (I've already bought a few to try when baby arrives, which I feel is a win.) There are a bunch of different types. I think most people use the kind that have a separate inner (absorbent) and outer (waterproof) layer. I think that is the original. We use newer all in one types, basically a reusable version of a sposy, which are more expensive but soooo much easier. You can add an inner absorbent layer for big pee-ers, and also an optional liner to catch poops (option here to use a disposable), for easy cleaning. You have to scoop out poop and do a hand rinse unless you want to clog up your washing machine. Then you do a nappy wash every other day (longer wait than 48 hrs and the pee will start to affect waterproofness), a rinse and the longest wash at 60 degrees possible. At night we do the type with separate outer and inner layers as they can absorb way more moisture. We did a rental service to start with to try out all the different options. In the US you could pay for nappies by subscription and they would pick up the dirty ones, drop off a clean set (like sheets for a hotel!). I guess it is a bit of a pain, but the difference is the huuuuge amount of landfill over 2.5 years. The 3 year old is only in a nappy at night and is in a reusable pull-up style.

We used them for a couple of years with our wee one. She eventually got a bit big for the biggest ones and we have gone back to pull up pant type nappies for now. You have to consider the washing of them - we used the washing machine which was never fucking off. This uses a lot of energy and kind of defeats the purpose somewhat. They are a faff, especially having to slop the worst of the shit off the liner. As Decks so eloquently puts it you're basically scraping faeces off a towelled pad for the most part.

Cheers. I definitely want to give them a good try. Both for environmental reasons, and (mostly) cost. Decks No. No I won't be doing that.

Someone I work with has just written a long facebook post about how its typical that another white politician has been murdered with no uproar, that everyone is too scared to say all lives matter or white lives matter anymore in case it offends anyone.
Not very cool given the demographics of the students in higher ed today

Not heard of Heat Pumps before, but they look just like the air conditioners all the houses and apartments over here have (which also work as heaters in winter).
I assume they're not the same, because these are shit and I'd trade them in for proper central heating in a heartbeat. That said, if they're linked up to radiators maybe it'd be ok.
The AC versions dry the air out, and you tend to end up with one room that's warm while every other room is bloody freezing. You also have to leave them running constantly, but that may just be due to crap insulation.
Still, if they're actually something different and more environmentally friendly, I wouldn't want to discourage anyone.

My partner works in heating and says for most houses heat pumps really won't cut it. This is basically only going to help people who have quite a bit of money already.

My house is old, with poorly fitted double glazing and can be draughty as hell. So not sure a heat pump would cut it. Plus, nowhere for the unit to go. So fuck it, replacement combi it is.
