Wow. I had heard he mentioned Kermit, but I hadn't actually seen the clip. That is cringy even by his standards. Are we hundred percent sure that Boris Johnson isn't a Sacha Baron Cohen character that has gotten out of hand?

My local petrol station was all out of fuel yesterday, what a time to be alive Just go full electric. Energy suppliers booming. Did that just earlier this month solar panels coming soon!

Looks like everyone’s out panic buying petrol then, cycled past a few stations this morning and all had a queue of cars on the road waiting to go in

I might panic charge my car and plug it in before 12 when I get the cheap leccy rate, just to join in and feel the glow of the Brexit benefit.
I was buying patio gas at a garage yesterday, it was empty, then suddenly it was completely full with a queue, the news must have broken. It reminded me of my mum rushing out in the 70s after the budget, along with everyone else to fill up before midnight....

My car is running on vapour. I didn't want to stop and fill it with a car full and the dog on the way home on Sunday, but wishing I had now.
Neighbour said there are huge queues at Sainsburys today. Sigh.

They were queueing into the road at 6:30 this morning when I was on my way home. Will be interesting if we cant get any fuel in our work vans next week. Also there will be loads who can't get in as well.
I would order anything you want online sooner rather than later if this is going to last a while

There’s no shortage of fuel though, it’s 2 companies short of truck drivers

There is a shortage of it in garages though and if everyone is panic buying they will run out. They have been running out in a few places round Portsmouth and Bognor for weeks now.

Might have to walk down with a Jerry can first thing tomorrow morning so I can fill my bike up, was a surprise to find the local Shell completely drained after a spin yesterday

There is a shortage of it in garages though that’s the point I was making, there’s absolutely no need for this reaction as it’s not a supply issue

There’s no shortage of fuel though, it’s 2 companies short of truck drivers And it's DEFINITELY not because of Brexit.

Definitely not, completely normal day to day panic buying of commodities

Sigh. Knew I should have filled up yesterday. Both cars (personal and work) near empty as is the local station. Guess it's a good excuse to not go in on Monday.
Well done Britain.

I do about 20 miles a week at the moment and filled up a week or two ago. I’ve got at least 6 weeks of fuel and can use less if needed, it’s only for getting to nursery that it’s essential.
I can just about see a Tesco petrol station from my house, it’s been queued up all morning. Normally it’s empty after 9.

Is there anything less reassuring than the government telling us that there’s no need to panic buy?

When we said there was no need we actually meant there was some need and you definitely should have done it.

The BBC are terrible with how they're reporting this. Their article on this regards to carry on as normal.. Is headed by a picture and thumbnail of empty taped off petrol pumps.
During an interview this morning, a station owner said there had been a noticeable demand increase because of fears being spread. That they usually have a delivery roughly once a week, but because of the driver shortage.. If that demand increases they weren't sure how quick they'd get another delivery. To which the BBC reporter promts "SO WHEN THE FUEL RUNS OUT, WE DON'T KNOW WHEN THERE WILL BE MORE.. "

If the media didn't report it we wouldn't have this situation. They are partly responsible for panic buying whether food or fuel. The media always headline their stories with "could", "may", "potentially" etc which really doesn't help. Just heard on the TV "'may' have empty shelves at Christmas' - talking about fuelling the fire. Dickheads.

So sounds like Boris is trying to make an emergency deal with Brazil to get enough turkeys in for Christmas now... Fucking hell, you couldn't make this shit up.

It is newsworthy though. Bit of a no win situation. Is it really? 8000 petrol stations with "50 to 100 BP forecourts are affected by shortages, while Esso said "a small number" of its Tesco Alliance retail sites had been hit."
It's all about perspective.

Any of them running out is an issue that shouldn’t happen, it shouldn’t be a reason for panic (yet) but I don’t see how it’s going to improve unless something changes. Panic buying could mean there’s a significant shortage over the next week or two though as stations will need to get refilled and there’s still the HGV driver shortage.

That’s similar to the numbers I saw reported as well. If people take that as a cue to start panic buying then that’s on them. We can’t not report stuff because people are thick.

But if you start your reporting the worst outcome with hyperbolic/hyperthetical language and then someway down the line say "ah yea...although this is only affecting a tiny proportion of forcourts" then it pretty irresponsible. This not just the BBC but many media outlets.
