I'm not sure there is _too_ much in that Truss story. If you actually read the article the sources are pretty tenuous. Surely, even Truss is not that thick. Perhaps I'm being too generous... Kwarteng _is_ quoted as saying their were talks on healthcare "restrictions" which is pretty grim anyway.

I think you're being very generous in trying not to believe that absolute sociopaths were in charge of the country for the last 14 years

It was possibly someone floating cancelling cancer treatments as a thing that would save a lot of money as a throwaway comment and her not completely shutting it down immediately. She's a fucking loon though who still thinks she's right, fuck the Tories for putting her in charge.

one of the membership hustings that ended up picking her was at our town racecourse, and local news vox popped party members as they left. I still remember one old boy, practically tumescent, enthusiastically telling the camera "there's something of the iron lady about liz"
I've often thought he can't live far and I really should track him down and hit him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper

Cutting cancer treatments would undoubtedly have been very much on the extreme end of what was being proposed, but I can absolutely believe it was a suggestion that was considered. The whole point of the Truss government was to completely slash public services. First opportunity to get rid of free at the point of use health service they would have jumped on. I expect they would start with conditions such as lung cancer and illnesses caused by obesity, ones that are often considered self inflicted. Then it is just a slippery slope to not treat the terminally ill or those over a certain age.

I keep hearing how Labour is putting up taxes etc etc but the ones moaning are the ones that kept voting tories! these fucking morons don't get tories wasted so much tax money over the years and the new gov are trying to fix the broken services with huge debt This is basically journalists, London based ones usually, doing some awkward double think about "working people". Which they've been doing since the election. As it's generally been taken to mean Income Tax, NI and VAT. E.g. the most common taxes the median person deals with. Journalists though often have weird side gigs, or partners who work in politics or banking etc. so they've set up a small company to pay themselves in dividends and claim going to the pub as an expense because they used it as an anecdote on a podcast... So capital gains tax or inheritance tax is coming straight for them who are definitely normal working people. Definitely. See also a lot of SPADs or think tank people. Might also explain why they think the economy is like a household budget.

I really think most people are hearing "working people" and thinking of their usual taxes. But journos have been muddying it claiming Starmer is vague and hiding something, even left wing ones.
I genuinely think that's because a weirdly high proportion of them are fucking around with Capital Gains and have convinced themselves that's normal.
God knows I met enough of the pricks at the Beeb.
This also applies to them moaning about private education.

Labour want a load of new houses to be built but the ones built are fucking shit
Its laughable things like "the entire staircase collapsed and her husband fell into the understairs cupboard." or major water leak in the bathroom is called a snag
of course these companies made massive profits under the tories and are key donor to them
the housing estate in the first link is not far from me and Bellway are creating new homes about 8 minute walk away from me. I need to get my own place but I can't imagine the dumpster fire they are building

It's not going to change in the short term until there are actual repercussions for builders and developers who throw together any old shit and get away with it.

Of course this is ridiculous. As an architect, we used to always carry out snagging towards the end of a job. The term used to refer to paintwork defects, or a door catching on the frame, or a sink not grouted correctly. Now it's taken to be absolutely anything wrong with construction at any stage which we would have referred to as 'defects' and should have been caught by the Clerk of Works or the site foreman or the architect or various other people. The problem is the whole process of construction has become so federated that hardly anyone if at all has overall control of a building site. We as architects rarely (in the contract types I was always involved with) have snagging as part of our scope of works. The clerk of works is a separate entity from the contractor and so can be up against it to get work actioned, or actively working with the bad builders, and the foreman won't have control of all the independent contractors the housebuilder employs. So where does the buck stop? Fuck buying a new house.

I'm no oil painting but that surely must be a typo. The BBC report the same age, their description of her crime is a bit funnier than The Guardian's.
A woman who pushed a burning wheelie bin into a row of police officers during the Middlesbrough riots has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
Stacey Vint, 34, from Middlesbrough, headed towards officers before tripping over and falling to the ground at their feet, Teesside Crown Court heard.
Surprised Plod didn't fall about laughing, an easy arrest at least.

5 years if you protest peacefully though, might as well engage in a bit of the old violence.
