I don't see any of that stuff when signed in. But I'm quite vigilant on never having clicked it; and if I ever accidentally get linked one I ensure I remove it from my youtube history.
I'm aware that if you so much as play one vid, the algorithm just assumes that's ALL you're interested in from now on. It does this for everything to be fair, I got linked a video about triple jump yesterday and my home page was suddenly full of athletics videos. I think the difference though is that the alt-reich stuff is more specifically engineered to get rage clicks after that point.

I have to say, out of all of them the YT algo is pretty good. It never shows me right wing content or even anti-SJW content for stuff I do like. It knows me pretty well.
Even twitter doesn't show me any right wing content unless its being dunked on by some idiot. Annoyingly, though, my feed is 90% trans content. Maybe because I follow a few (now) trans people like Haus of Decline and Philosophy Tube and people are constantly retweeting JKR but I get nothing but inane shite about taking oestrogen.
The weirdest one is Instagram. I've never seen an ad algorithm like it. Everything it shows me, I want to buy. Its absolutely uncanny. The content feed, however, is laughably shit. It shows me nothing but parkour and DIY reels.
But, yeah, overall I get pretty much no right wing content pushed to me unless the creator has a nervous breakdown and pivots to it.

Speaking of YouTube, Paul "Mr. Biffo" Rose of Digitiser fame just dropped a completely unexpected video addressing the current state of events in the UK and hits every nail on the head. Worth a watch if you get the time.

When not signed into YouTube, the recommendations are just awash with cunts. I'm signed in and it still tries pushing dodgy "news" channels.

Blocking the "Jordan Peterson clips" channel was pretty satisfying, fuck knows why it suggested it.

There is nothing more persecuted in this country than a middle class white person.

To be fair those cunts who do indulge in fox hunting are quite inbred so they probably are genetically distinct from normal people.

Those foxes are asking for it, have you seen how they dress? Covered in fox fur. It's their own fault.

Make foxes a protected minority and make it open season on fox hunters and see how they like it.

I think what they should do is legalise all of it, but under the condition that all participants have to register to participate in being hunted by dogs themselves once a year.

The journalists all use it because the politicians all use it, and because it's a good way to pick up breaking (but possibly false) news stories. It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem though, and also influenced by international factors. Even if you could get all the UK politicians to simultaneously jump ship to some other platform, I guess the journalists would still need to be on it for US news, Ukraine news, etc.. So the worry is that decent people and politicians leaving just cedes ground to all the right wing idiots, making them seem more important than they really are. I don't think I've ever seen an embedded Thread, Bluesky or Mastodon post on the BBC or any other news website I've looked at. A concerted push to get Labour etc.. politicians to move to some other platform isn't a bad idea, but I still have a feeling they'll all end up back on Twitter in a few months, because they'll get fed up of being ignored. I don't suppose there are any easy options for cross-posting to all platforms? There used to be, but I assume Musk shut that down with all his api changes/charges. If there is, it'd be a more seamless way to mirror content on non-X platforms, and then be able to shut off X usage without disruption. Or maybe the UK government should set up its own UK-politics Mastodon server and invite all politicians and journalists.

I read something the other day with an MP saying that there was an expectation you would have a twitter presence to facilitate contact with you constituents. I suspect most people don't want to use it anyway so it feels like a solution would just be to remove that mandate.
Our business just dropped our 24hr twitter team (RIP) because they saw no value in it. They moved one person over to the main media team who just responds within business hours but other than that they just use it to track people complaining about outages.

I don’t know what the answer is really. It’s still really useful for breaking news and despite all the bots/trolls/fake news it’s the easiest way to get a handle of a situation that many, even good journalists and publications can, for better or worse, can struggle to ‘get out ‘ within a decent time.
I think the easiest way to start would be having ‘Twitter strikes’ where on a certain day people deactivate their accounts for a day. But with service of 160+ million users I don’t know how much what would likely be 20,000 people deactivating their account would have.
On a side note, been really noticeable how the mask as slipped on a lot of right wing commentators/politicians over the last couple of weeks. They’re not even trying to hide their views anymore. It’s like they gone fuck it and now are openly being racist/trolling. It’s grim.

Think trying to coordinate deactivations on a given day would have about as much use as the self imposed ban that women made for a day to raise awareness on #MeToo or asking people to change their profile pics to a black square for a day for BLM. Performative nonsense with no lasting consequence. Money talks, it's why Elon's making such a fuss about advertisers not coming into the platform. The more cases of unchecked racism and every other kind of ism's and phobia's build up you'd like to hope the less people will stay on. Twitter doing it to themselves anyway with all this priority given to Twitter Blue users, stripping away basic feature and unchecked amount of porn bots.

Mastodon is such a crap name for social media site, was going to say it sounds like metal band but it seems there is one already from a long while ago. I don't hear much about it and same for blue skies
I deleted my twatter account a while ago as never used it, it was only good for messaging companies to raise a complaint and it worked to get my series X pad replaced as couldn't get through to MS customer support and complain to expedia

Bluesky is certainly getting busier as people move away from Twitter more now.
