Conversion therapy is the one where you psychologically abuse gay people until they have to pretend not to be, right? What’s that got to do with Liz’s attack on trans rights? Or is that just a catchall sentence to account for all of ‘woke’? or is Truss just too stupid to understand what any of those terms mean? Nah, it is used against trans people too. The ban that the Tories put forward originally was going to be for everyone, but they backtracked to exclude conversion therapy for trans people. Labour are adding them back in. Some people (I think including the Cass report) have suggested that the ban could cause difficulties for doctors asking gender dysphoria patients "have you tried not being trans?" |

After 2 days of being elected people were moaning around here that the local MP hadn't replied to the multiple emails they'd sent them about squirrels. I imagine Truss to be one of those people.
In what way can a smoking ban be counterproductive? Less smoking means more lung disease and cancer?

The greatest threat to the legislation was from the Conservatives, if Sunak hadn't called the election it may have been dependent on opposition party votes to get it through. It'll certainly have no problems now.

I am in two minds about the smoking ban. I don't think prohibition is ever a good idea as it tends to put supply into the hands of criminals, so you lose both quality control and also tax. Also smoking is declining with every generation, particularly with the onset of vapes.
