I don't really get the food thing, we have a lot of really good food here and some of the best restaurants in the world.
Sure our food in the 60's and 70's wasn't amazing but it's changed a lot since then.

I don't really get the food thing, we have a lot of really good food here and some of the best restaurants in the world. Sure our food in the 60's and 70's wasn't amazing but it's changed a lot since then. I heard it mainly started with the US soldiers who were stationed here during WW2, when of course the UK had been under rationing for years. Plus it took a long while to recover after the war. So now it's become a known 'thing', and every ESL textbook has a section where they learn English by complaining about the food and the service in a British restaurant I've had converstions about it with at least 8 separate Japanese people who visited the UK, and said UK food was bad. But I feel like it's mostly expectation. When I asked for examples they mostly couldn't come up with anything. At least one complained about the hotel breakfast, but when I asked it was basically a buffet of Kelloggs cereals, Fruit and Bread, which is exactly what you'd get in most countries so *shrug*. But it's also not really in British people's nature to be proud of stuff or boast about it and talk it up. "So, random Brit, what's the UK like?" "Well, the weather isn't great and it rains a lot, and the food sucks, and the trains are always late, but I guess it's ok. How about Japan, random Japanese dude?" "Well, we have the best food in the world, amazing service, and 4 distinct seasons*! and it's a very safe country!" *freezing season, allergy season, downpour season, melting season, and autumn is ok.

*freezing season, allergy season, downpour season, melting season, and autumn is ok. Â This place sounds amazing. Far better than the UK's continuous year long grey season which takes the occasional day off for a special guest.

Iâve eaten horse sashimi in japan (chewy), chicken gizzards (crunchy), wierd chicken collagen/cartilage(?) meatball yakitori (gristly), beef intestine yakiniku (this is actually very good but they bring a raw bowl of it to you), a grilled fish head (picking out cheek meat and eyes with chopsticks), an âommeletâ pot noodle that I couldnât even eat pissed at 3am in the hotel room

German Trains worse than English ones?! www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckvgkgq9yeqoTbf, even though a lot of stuff in the UK has been run down over the past few years, I've always thought that the UK suffers a bit from being 'glass half empty' about everything, and generally moaning and being self deprecating too much. Everyone in the world knows UK food, trains, weather, etc.. are shit.. because British people and media keep telling them. Lots of other countries are probably equally shit, they just don't keep going on about it PS/ Starmer's Red Revolution!!! www.bbc.com/news/articles/c10lrp8nzl8oTheirs will probably go back to being cheap and super efficient transport now that the rush of the Euros has died down, while ours is world beating levels of shitness all year round. It's not really a fair comparison. People rightly complain about it costing less to get a flight abroad than it does to get a train halfway up the country. Annual price increases but no improvements to service. Delays upon delays with some cancellations thrown in for good measure. Hopefully one of the things this government sort out. /Edit Ah, read down a bit and it's not just a "football fan sez trains are a bit shit" article...

I actually like the weather in this country.
The seasons give a nice variety and pattern to the year, and it's never so hot or cold that you might actually come to harm and *die* from exposure. Bit chilly? Put on a jumper. Bit hot? Sit in the shade.

Emily Maitlis is brilliant. Really takes no bullshit. I did unsub from The News Agents as my life was getting a bit echo chambery, but I might need to resub.
Farage is a pathetic person.

The last train I got was a direct Newcastle to Oxford that had to terminate in Birmingham due to a driver shortage on the way down and then three transfers via London on the way back up.
The replacement train to Oxford was so full there were two stops where no one new could board.
Thanks a lot Starmer.

Trump was so upset by the events of Sat that he had to call up his bestest buddy in the whole world and ask him to come over for support.
Bull. Shit. Farage would have been there even without the assassination attempt

He nearly died and then frog face turned up to kiss his ring, I almost feel some sympathy for Trump.
Almost.

He nearly died. Didn't you know? That makes two of them, I guess. Neither close enough for my liking.

You can see it his face when she asks him if Trump personally asked him to come and he has to repeatedly say "he nearly died" and then keeps bringing up the word "friends". Which is interesting as reportedly most people at the RNC conventions want nothing to do with him.

Farage is so thin skinned it's hilarious, more journalists should actually push him more because he comes undone so fucking easily.
Just her holding that mic to him for a few seconds of silence nearly made him burst a blood vessel.

I think whatâs funniest to me is that its not unreasonable for a right-wing MP to be trying to make friends at the RNC or attending fringe events over there for a couple of days. But Farage is so desperate to look like heâs Trumpâs pal and so thin skinned about his own career and status that Maitliss can turn it into a button to push and he immediately squirms.

Stop the presses, Liz has chimed in to point out that Labour policies are "unconservative"

It's funnier when you realise that four of those "bad policies" were being attempted by the Tories before Labour got in. But of course they were absolutely useless at achieving anything other than crashing the economy...

Conversion therapy is the one where you psychologically abuse gay people until they have to pretend not to be, right? Whatâs that got to do with Lizâs attack on trans rights? Or is that just a catchall sentence to account for all of âwokeâ? or is Truss just too stupid to understand what any of those terms mean?

It's quite heartwarming that Truss now has the time to be one of those odd cranks who just writes those angry, unintelligible letters to their local paper.
