Other than some occasional special versions I think there'll be fuck all enthusiasm in making this pointless size, fuck this Churchill worship bullshit.
Pint-sized bottles for champagne were said to be the favourite size of British wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill, and bringing them back has previously caught the attention of some newspapers.
However, the new sizes will apply only to wine sold in shops in the UK, and it remains to be seen what the demand will be for pint-sized wine bottles among producers and bottlers.

That was something that only JRM cared about tbh. That's more why imo.

JRM doesn't give a shit about it. He just believes the working class brexit voting stereotype in his head does.

To be fair, it’s one of those ‘right things for the wrong reasons’ things. If I can go into a shop and buy 568ml of milk or walk into a pub and get served 568ml of beer there’s no real reason why wine should be the exception. Not that the public give a fuck or manufacturers will bother. Absolutely nobody gives a shit about this or was even aware it’s a thing.
But, yeah, priorities.

And the EU laws had specific carve outs for the one time it matters, pubs. So British & Irish (as it wasn't just the UK) got a specific clause in the EU law for "pints".

Does it really "matter" in a pub, other than it being the way it always has been? I'm not sure anyone would really care that much if you suddenly were only able to get 500ml in pubs instead of 568ml. Anyone that did care would forget about it after a few (almost) pints.

You know the prices would stay the same though… “to cover the costs of new glassware and labels”

Yeah and when on the continent getting a big glass of beer at 500ml is fine. It's more that having a pint in the pub has no bearing on Brexit. But yknow who can be bothered switching from saying "a pint of X" or making all pubs throw out a shit load of glasswear in the bin? Just seems needlessly fussy.

The simple solution would be to change the definition of the quantity "pint", would it not?
I can't see it causing too many problems: the US is one of the few other countries that still use imperial units, and some US units are different from UK ones in size anyway, aren't they?

Well a US one is actually around 100ml less the a British one. For strange American reasons. Still how's changing the definition and replacing all the glasses in pubs easier than just leaving it as is?

It's just a bottle size (that no wine producer is going to make), nothing to do with pubs serving wine in pints as Sam Allardyce will confirm.
The results of that consultation are damning though, no one but a tiny proportion of loons wants anything to do with imperial measures any longer.

1% apparently, but they're still soldiering on like this is something that matters to the voters.

Just like all the other industry, almost all of Britain’s glass bottle production has now left for other countries.
Oh, the irony of having to import pint bottles from abroad

So, let me just get this straight.
The EU were fine with us keeping pints (as long as the metric value was included and as prominent)
We could have had pints of wine to, but no-one ever cared.
The spivs and con artists who sold Brexit to some of the public. Presented pints of wine as a Brexit win to people who are still waiting for Britain to turn into a combo of Heartbeat, Hi-de-hi and Goodnight Sweetheart.
No-one cared, except wine producers, who said "Aw hell nah'"
The spivs and con artists have backtracked and will include the metric volume, but are still selling it as a win.
Still no-one cares, except wine producers who are still saying "Aw hell nah."
Am I up to speed?

But the EU law has an extra carve out for pints not needing metric on them at all, if it's a re-usable glass thing like (old) milk bottles and pint glasses in pubs. To save businesses having to chuck em all out. Which is all still in effect as Ireland also utilises it, pints of Guiness and the whole Speed 3 thing in Father Ted.

Ha. Truss trying to sneak out an honours list at the same time as the government's. Hers is pathetic.

It's Sunak's doing not hers (the timing), it adds more fuel to the "the honours system needs scrapping/massively overhauled" argument at least.
