Aye, every 6 months here too. Don't think £26 quid is unreasonable to check the health of an incredibly important part of your body.

I was a good boy this year and did the whole health MOT thing. Got everything checked, bloods etc, as well as regular dentist trips.
It’s amazing how much it positively affects your mental health (for me anyway). All the little worries of things that might actually be slowly killing you add up to quite heavy mental baggage.

Yeah, im quite quite the hypochondriac and there is no better feeling than leaving the doctors after a full workup and being told 'its stress, try and relax. And cut down on the caffeine'.
'And your vitamin D levels are ridiculously low. Take some supplements and go outside, ffs'.

If you have a full time job over here it's basically required that you go for an annual full health check (on the company). It might even be legally required, not sure.
Previously I'd had one full health check about 20 years ago in the UK when my old company switched to a new insurance/pension scheme. Then I'd been a contract worker until last year. So I'd never done one. People here couldn't believe it.
I hadn't really seen the point before, but the last 2 years have been that point where age starts causing all these little niggles that you never had to worry about in your 20s or 30s. So you start to worry that everything is some sign of some fatal disease. It's nice to get rid of those worries, as Kal says.
Plus having it be an annual thing should mean that any dramatic changes show up early-ish.
Prevention being better than a cure and all that.

"Your vitamin C levels are off the fucking charts though, I've never seen anything like it!" yes, I realise that you piss out any excess vitamin C past a certain point

Funnily enough, I stopped drinking orange juice as part of this last bout of 'what the fuck is wrong with me?'. Long story short, I thought I had bowel cancer but just had really bad IBS. I cut out a lot of acids, sugars and whatnot so RIP my crippling orange juice addiction. (the Vit D deficiency can cause low mood, so that didnt help with the old stress triggers, either)

I got one of those high dosage Vit D mouth sprays. The placebo effect is really good. Strong recommend.

My dad was a dentist. He would frequently tell horror stories of people that thought they never needed to go the dentist because there was no obvious problems and then one day they died from infections that spread to the brain. Well if your avatar is anything to go by... 😨

Sunak announced there will be general election next year, hopefully its sooner and not end of the year. The trouble is he is liar, so it could be Jan 2025!

Well, of course there'll be an election next year. It's legally mandated.

They can run it to the absolute end, which is 17 December 2024, there's then a campaign period which pushes the legally mandated election date to 28 January 2025
edit: fixed date - I was one day out

None of this quad strength stuff I hope. The double is bad enough, but just about palatable. The boy is the same, goes through pints of the stuff.

Used to drink squash all the time, but now mostly just water (I'm not a hot drinks drinker, besides the odd hot chocolate). Really though, they aren't particularly high in sugar. Even before they switched to using artificial sweeteners, it was still miniscule amounts compared to other soft drinks.

I just can't get enough of water really. When I visit England I find it really difficult to drink squash, I really used to love apple and blackcurrant squash but now I just find it too sweet, even the no added sugar stuff. Don't get me started on how sweet Ribena is.

I had some Ribena for the first time in years a while back and fuck me. Nope.
I made a concerted effort to cut down sugary drinks a few years ago as I don't booze, so it's just coke. Now I limit it to if I'm out (which I tend to nurse because prices) and if football is on.
Rest of the day is tea, decaf coffee or own brand squash.
Or milk. Lots of milk. Like that Gotham episode.

Can’t remember the last time I had squash. I have one glass of juice at breakfast, 2 coffees a day and that’s it, don’t do fizzy drinks or tea. Water and alcohol are the main drinks

The concentrated squashes are getting to be a hard to work out how much to put in the glass, first double strength and now quad, give it much longer and just showing the bottle to a glass will be enough.
Reducing plastic waste is good though.

Reducing plastic waste is good though. That's the issue I've had. You could put a tiny amount in and it sets your teeth on edge.
