Technically it's the same for me, but I use English so often nowadays that I'm seriously starting to think that I'm more articulate in that than my mother tongue... That's what a lifetime of all-English TV shows, movies, text-heavy videogames etc will do to ya, I suppose

Piers Morgan: I never hacked a phone or told anyone to hack a phone. That’s not the question Piers. The question you have never answered is, did you know that phone hacking was happening? It’s a piss-poor editor that doesn’t enquire how their journalists are getting massive scoop after massive scoop. Or one who is trying to make sure his paper gets the scoops but he personally avoids the legal blowback. Or he’s just a massive liar.

Ok, I stand corrected, there's absolutely no evidence that social media have helped making an existing situation worse. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Not to be a dick about it but I didn’t see you present any evidence, just some very flawed received wisdom. I mean really, the idea that all the far right went into hiding since WW2 and have only resurged since the invention of social media is blatantly untrue. In fact the far right rallies are still not on the same scale as those that happened in the 70s and 80s, long before social media came along. Which is really my point. There is a correlation between the current surge of extremism and social media, but has causation been proven? Maybe social media is actually helping suppress it by shining more light? Maybe it would be even worse without it? Again it’s an easy (and sorry but somewhat lazy) link but it’s classic demonisation of the media, which is actually a symptom of much more complex causes. IMO anyway… I'm surprised you haven't seen this or heard about the source materials youtu.be/fuFlMtZmvY0?si=MnkV0yqmx_bqD1tP

(Seriously, though, smaller communities on the internet and getting rid of algorithms sounds like a good idea to me. As ever, regulation of the industry is a far better approach than just outright banning things.)

I’m fairly sure Michelle Mone just described herself as an ‘escape goat’ I don't really understand how she thinks this interview is going to help. Assume Laura has soft-balled her though?

Medium balled. It wasn’t quite client journalism but equally there isn’t much you can say when you’re interviewing a pair of unrepentant, very well coached people who’s story is basically ‘I’m a businessman and they gave me the money so it can’t have been that bad. She didn’t have anything to do with it other than lying about knowing about it and being the trustee of a trust he immediately shovelled all the profits into.
He’s not apologising for being a business guy and she’s very sad the press (and becoming a peer) have made their lives miserable when all she did was marry an entrepreneur and have a yacht.
Again, it’s hard to see what they are getting out of it. They are still rich and nobody gives a shit about what they have to say. The fundamental problem is they don’t understand that this is revolving around them because she’s an attractive, blonde bra peddler who likes to pose in swimsuits and the gutter press are perverts.
I mean, yeah, I’d be pissed off if I was the only one taking heat for this but, equally, fuck off and never come back.

They were in cloud cuckoo land to think people believe they believe that just because £50m went into a trust that is at least 50% controlled by her husband that she isn't get any benefits from it.
Utter stupidity.

> But a defiant Baroness Mone said: "I don't honestly see there is a case to answer. I can't see what we have done wrong." Chortle. Stick 'em in the stocks. The issue, really, is they are getting sued for ‘unjust enrichment’ and as far as they are concerned, they asked for money and got it. That’s business. It’s the government’s rube act that is probably the most concerning thing in all this. ‘The mean people took advantage of our good nature’ is, frankly, pathetic. It shifts all the blame onto the money grabbers and absolves everyone who was spunking cash into donors bank accounts. I can see exactly why they are losing their shit even if they are doing it in the most graceless, oblivious way that is humanly possible. Their problem is ‘everyone was at it, so why should we be the only ones getting dragged?’ is not really the basis of a compelling redemption arc.

The Labour Party are in full on low profile mode at the minute. No way they would let a Trans candidate stand. The Right wing press would make the entire election campaign about it. The next election would be entirely fought on this (what is a woman) and immigration. Starmer wouldn't commit to Levinson 2.0 because he would be figuratively murdered in the media for it. Think the only one honest about it has been Harry. Think Bongo had a point as regards Michelle Mone. She took advantage of a corrupt system. So many others would if they could. You have to look at the systems causing the corruption, not the symptoms. The reason the legacy media hasn't been all over this, is because technically, she did nothing illegal.

She (well, PPE medpro) absolutely fucking did act illegally, in supplying £122m or so of inadequate kit, in breach of contract.
And the breach is heinous enough that even this shower of shit is suing to get the mone-y back.

and it looks like she lied about it to get into a peerage I think Dave (sorry, Lord Dave of Chipping Norton) gave her the peerage in 2015ish for services to.. uh.. something? Maybe Prince Wills, or Osborne had a word, given their interests in her pre-PPE field.

At the start of the pandemic, after deciding to keep the business running, our suppliers in China sent us facemasks, because their media was telling them how bad the UK was. We started to get more from them, and give most of them away. We did make a large order to sell - but due to Google restrictions on advertising stuff that might be deemed difficult, it was problematic. Chinese customs were also going gangbusters on testing stuff coming out. We ended up sending a load to Ukraine after they expired.
But at the start, our suppliers were passing on offers of millions of items a week to us, it seemed like half of China had switched over to make PPE. I never considered it, as I assumed that as it was an area I knew nothing about, I would be very wary of getting unsuitable/faulty/counterfit products, and that it was better to leave these imports to companies who dealt in this stuff. The prices being punted about were also much more than these products went for normally. amd would change day by day.
So I'm not surprised that people made a lot of money off these. The 30% margin MM made is just taking the piss. It's been years since we've made anywhere near that, with the drop in the value of the £, inflation etc.
