It’s mental. I don’t know a single person who has ever mentioned wanting pounds and ounces back and I know some proper little englanders.
I can’t recall any of the usual media fuckheads whining about it, either. It literally feels like a ‘I bet they do this next’ joke.

As a design engineer, the thought of going to pounds, ounces, inches, yards, feet etc horrifies me.
Can't imagine it happening. we have had metric standards for years that have been integrated with most of the world. Literally the only country that maintains imperial standards of measurement is the USA. Which is ironic because they fought a war to throw off the yolk of British oppression.

As a design engineer, the thought of going to pounds, ounces, inches, yards, feet etc horrifies me. This is the thing, you wouldn’t. This is just to allow vendors to sell in imperial measurements again. Vendors who would purchase their stock in metric. It’s not a return to imperial, it’s just a pathetic two fingers to the EU, telling them we can sell in ounces now if we want to. It’s more fantasyland bullshit from people who think housewives still do their shopping at a market and that people think the EU imposed an awful metric system on us.

It is genuinely pathetic. 'we can buy a pint of milk again'. We literally always could. Not once in my life have I considered that I was buying 568ml of milk.

It's a funny one. I absolutely think imperial is stupid for any kind of numbers work.
But I get that it's nice to use something with a name in every day use. Like talking about a pint, or saying 6 feet instead of 183cm.

Imperial measurements are moronic.
They'll leave the 'British TV' thing really vague so they can jump on the bandwagon the next time gammons get uppity about something they've seen.

"568ml? That's very nearly an armful" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I don't think the Imperial measures thing is even about appealing to their own supporters, cos like you say nobody even mentions it. It's purely to annoy their enemies in the "culture war". The Tories are borrowing from Trump but putting a British toff cunt spin on it, it's all about "owning the libs" and nothing more. Judging by the posts in this thread it's having the desired effect.
It's fucking stupid.

That may well be true. I don't really care, as ultimately nothing will change, but it's just so divisive. Entirely unnecessary.

The more you look at it the more it looks like they were just rubbing shit on their faces to knock universal credit out of the news cycle.
Even by their standards yesterday’s announcements were ridiculous and they must have known that.

Yikes. Looks like one senior backbencher didn't get the memo. I suspect Sir Roger will soon very sadly accidentally brutally cut his own head off whilst combing his hair:
