I really want to enjoy this but I'm so thoroughly fucked off by this house move that I'm not even in the mood. Been waiting on this for years too

My first impressions on PC (Game Pass) are pretty good. The art style is fancier and more modern but still in the same style as the original. The controls feel a bit tighter and the tutorial level is suitably Psychonauts.
Hopefully get more time to play soon.
A few weird hiccups despite CPU and GPU utilisation being nowhere near maxed and being installed on am SSD bit nothing too bothersome.

I've put a few hours in and I'm really enjoying it. It's genuinely funny in parts and quite sweet. Very much more exploration focused for all the little bits and pieces than the combat. Probably the most fun I've had with a game this year so far. Looking back, it hasn't been the best for games in 2021

Same first impressions for me, feels like proper psychonauts, including me dying a couple of times in the tutorial.

Really enjoying the humour in this a lot. From the little touches like the enemy names to unexpected comments coming out of nowhere (the random shout from when you enter one of the early levels was brilliant).
Also, was anyone else surprised by how pretty it looks in places?

I can't wait to play this. No idea when I can though. Probably not until Tuesday night.

I’m not far in but its pretty much exactly what I’d wanted it to be so far. Hasn’t missed a beat on the weirdness and none of it feels forced.
I do wonder how someone who wasn’t around in the PS2 days might find the controls but lets face it no one under 35 is buying it.

Controls are definitely a bit old-fashioned. It seems ok so far though.
I don't really do platformers though, so hope i don't regret it.

It looks very pretty on PC while staying consistent artistically to the original. No crashes at all there, ran flawlessly so far for me. I have played about 7 hours in and exploring the main overworld (I think).

I would say that the mechanics/ controls feel like a more polished version of what we had 10 years ago. A bit like those indie games that go for a retro feel but with modern quality of life improvements.

I'm just surprised that after 16 years they have retained so much of the style and gameplay quirks.

I was a bit surprised how faithful it is to the original in that regard. Not upset by it myself but I played lots of early 3d platformers in the ps1 and 2 eras

How does this look in HDR? (It’s exclusive to xbox right now) Just beat the first boss and I bet it looks great with all the neon.

I’ve recently quit work through stress and playing this with my 4 year old has been a revelation.
It’s a better game, but doesn’t have the creativity of the first - but it’s better as a whole

I'm in the same boat and so glad that I did... Felt like I was pushing myself to an early grave every day in that place.

This thread is now about sharing our feelings and discussing mental stress. Appropriate. About six months ago I went down to 4 days a week at my job. Kinda good timing with the pandemic because firms are looking to cut costs, and in my field there has been an exodus of people flocking to fully remote jobs rather than places like where I am that are trying to steer us back into the office full time. Best move I've ever made. A 20% paycut sucks donkey balls, but that one day a week (it's, annoyingly, a Thursday) is a revelation. Wednesday is my first Friday. As for Psychonauts 2... it's great! Some of the platforming is too far on the old-skool side of things, but the presentation is eccelent, and the whole thing hangs together really well. It has that same old charm, and the soundtrack is so reminiscent of classic Lucasfilm, and I love how much of the platforming is in service of light puzzling. Haven't gotten as far as the first boss yet, as I've been hoovering up collectibles everywhere I go.

Started it a few days ago, primarily for me Gamepass quest of 1 daily cheveo for 50 points, but I am enjoying. Just started the first "proper" mission.

I must be pretty near to the end now and I've pretty much enjoyed all of it. Some fantastic writing and the platforming isn't too shabby. I suppose a criticism could be it's a bit easy but then not every game has to teeth gnashing either and I don't think it would really have benefited from being hard.

Easy would be fine. So long as it stays fun.

Yeah I think easy is fine too. It actually suits some games more than being a challenge does.

I'm rather enjoying this, but my missus said last night 'you know, this is the kind of game kids would play'.
Just because I am not shooting stuff, or stealthing about, it does not mean its a kids game.

Aren’t all the kids into being racist trolls on Fortnite and COD these days? Something weird, funny and inventive is the domain of old men who remember when Gamesmaster first aired now
