Dave Perry joined EG at some point.
It went about as well as expected.

I've never tried cocaine (honest guv) but Diamond at his peak always struck me as the definition of a minor sleb on it.
I'd forgotten the Dave Perry thing. Remember it being quite shocking, but different times eh.

I went down a rabbit hole and ended up watching the show Diamond presented after GM more specifically the episode that had David Walliams and Matt Lucas at their most unfunniest as Mash and Peas. One second hand cringe was real.

I think Dave Perry was always a bit strange, to be honest. The Games Animal persona was already in place well before the GM fallout... with the bandanas and asking for the questions for a TV quiz before he agreed to take part (lest he look like he wasn't, in fact, The Games Animal). It was basically just free ammo for anyone who wanted to give him shit. And to no one's surprise, they did.
Even when he was editor of Sega Pro he saw himself as some kind of maverick against the system. Getting crap quality photos of Sonic 2 at a no camera event just so he could print them first (getting himself uninvited to future events in the process) or accusing other magazines of being paid to inflate their scores without proof. By all accounts he was an absolute dickhead. That doesn't justify bullying in any way but he did make himself an easy target.
It's not like Diamond did himself any favours with his behaviour, either. He never really achieved much past a few radio and shitty channel 5 voxbox shows.

I can highly recommend the GamesMaster book that Dominik Diamond put out a year or two ago. And yes, the reason for his character change over the years was indeed loads of cocaine.
The idea of him, Walliams and Simon Pegg all being on the same drama course at uni together does fascinate me given how their big breaks really straddle three quite different eras of tv comedy.

"joy" wouldn't exactly be appropriate*, but as internet nuggets go, a live stream of north korean tv is extra nuggety www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3VGSAv2v8sas best i understand it, this is the satellite version of ye olde ham radio folks occasionally stumbling across number stations
* except for the joy we feel toward Great Leader's benevolent rule

Niall and his stories of rescuing countless dogs in Thailand were already one of the best things on Twitter, so tales like this really give you hope for a better future

I've been watching this guy's videos recently, but for me the pick of the bunch is his latest vid, LOTR: The Return of the King. I'd watch the crap out of this 80s version.

Watched this last night. It's a rather amusing whistlestop tour of the first series, episode by episode. I'm really hoping he covers the subsequent series too, including the Dave Perry incident. Series 2 now available...
