Yes, another version of Skyrim is on the way. Next gen update, various selected mods built in, free for special edition owners, plus, at long last, everyone's least favourite mini-game - fishing!
Sure, I guess it's an excuse to play this game again. No doubt I'll go for a stealthy archer build as always.

And the next elder scrolls is probably still 2-3 years away… what odds them skipping another console generation before it finally releases?
I can only assume these re-releases etc make an enormous amount of money for them. When was the last time that main team released something ‘new’?

I know it's a bit of a joke about how many times Skyrim is released but the fact that it's a free upgrade for those who own the Special Edition, and that it's for the anniversary, makes it hard for me to pour too much scorn on it. I'll almost certainly end up downloading it

No doubt I'll go for a stealthy archer build as always. It's impossible not to- even when I've tried doing, say, a noisy Orc specialising in two handed combat and heavy armour, I still end up sneaking through dungeons. Nice that this is a free upgrade, it looked like a good remake even with 4k mods on the One X so I can't wait to see what modders do with this gen.

Saved my list of mods (halfway down the page) from being deleted forever, so I can refer back to it when the new version's out (Wonder if saves and/or installed mods will transfer over?)

OK I hadn't actually seen the announcement, and the article on the front page of the other place was really confusing about what's paid and what's free, so for the avoidance of doubt:
- The anniversary edition will include lots of extra content, lifted from the Creation Club, plus fishing. It's a PAID UPGRADE for holders of the current Special Edition, including Game Pass subscribers - The next-gen upgrade, and the fishing add-on, are free to holders of the current Special Edition
So it sounds like the paid upgrade is for die-hard enthusiasts who have to have everything, but if it's just Creation Club stuff, anything half decent will probably have a comparable mod in the free version anyway.

Oh right. I'm fine with paying for a new version if the content looks worthwhile. Found the mods on PS4 a very mixed bag, plus they disabled trophies. A curated selection with a guarantee of quality and cross-compatibility would be nice.

Ah, thanks for that. It wasn't clear at all. Depends on the price of the anniversary upgrade if I'll bother then. If it's like 10 quid or something fine, but knowing Bethesda it'll be double that.

Which is going to die first? This or GTA V? At this point I fully expect to see them both announced for the PS7 minimum.

Can’t play Baldur’s Gate 3 for a month, so rolled a new character in this after seeing the anniversary upgrade was on sale.
Somehow I’ve played a thuzillion hours of this and never thought to try Raise Zombie on random dead animals. I just associated Zombie with humanoids. Haven’t tried a rabbit yet, but so far I’ve had a zombie moose (really big deer really) a wolf, rat thing, and turns out you can even zombify dead zombies. I’m betting it won’t work on dragons but should. Have to test horses and barnyard animals too.

That sounds pretty cool.
Have you tried levelling illusion too? I love the frenzy skill, or whichever one is the highest level one. You can cause some hilarious in-fighting all the time with it.
It's also really funny casting it on people in a really busy city too and watch the mayhem unfold.

I think with a lot of these spells I didn’t “get” it, because it says it only works on mobs of such and such a level, but I don’t know what level anything is, and when I tried it in the distant past it was always saying “nah won’t work on him”

It was only when I saw a guy on YouTube successfully doing it that made me research it a bit more. Its a bit of an investment because you need the extra perks in the skill tree to get the most out of it and you can also do the "double up" thing where you use both hands to increase the power of it. I can't remember the exact way of doing it now, but if you have a look at the skill tree you'll see what I mean. Then you have to do that double thing and I found it worked on loads of stuff after that. Not everything of course, but if you stumble into a cave of vampires or humanoids, you can literally cause absolute fucking havoc. I will personally guarantee you'll be smiling all the time at the absurdity of it all

That does sound fun. I’ve tried experimenting with different characters and abilities in Skyrim before, and it usually ends up the same way because of how the levelling works. I’m about 10 hours in, sneaking around a cave, thinking “I could probably hit that guy before he notices me with this bow I found” and then before I know it, BOOM, another stealth archer.

Yeah, avoiding stealth archer is hard but you just have to focus on a specific build and stick to it. You might not even be powerful enough to do the game, but it doesn't really matter, because an illusion build is more about fun tbh. I use a bow with mine and daggers too just to scratch the stealth archer itch but just enough to get by and then go nuts with illusion

I've never actually played Skyrim, but I was under the impression (from all the beautiful scenery screenshots) that it was a much more polished and constrained game than previous Bethesda RPGs. I'm glad to see that in reality it's just like Morrowind etc...

It remains bug-riddled nonsense 11 years later. Always seem to find at least one Louis Letrush half-embedded in the ground somewhere. “Yes? Can I help you?” he says, from halfway in the ground. This time, after finishing his quest he rode off in one direction, and I found him embedded in a keep in the opposite direction. The bandits in the keep developed the ability to Instantly teleport to whichever entrance I went through and Instakill me, to the extent that I got stuck in a loop of the game reloading until I managed to get to the pause menu and load and earlier save, in the fraction of a second between loading and dying.

In this particular case, anyone I’d aggroed running away from the op boss bandit would appear at whatever entrance I entered through, and the boss.

This is my favourite bug. I was doing the mages quest and had to get to mirabelle to advance the quest. Except she'd managed to teleport herself on top of an iceberg in uncharted territory. There was no way up so I had to load a mod that enabled me to jump 1 mile in the air. I even took a video of it youtu.be/MkWTtU1gCQM

I’d have been ropable. Have never encountered a main quest breaking bug, thankfully.
