I hope this referee is ready for the never ending stream of shit that Klopp is going to be pouring into his ear. Judging by the videos proliferating on Twitter, he should be praising the ref for applying vastly different standards to those applied to Marcus Rashford last night. You couldn't write that there would so instantly be a much worse stamp/tackle that isn't punished the same way for... Reasons? |

That said, I saw a pic where he's stamping on someone's hand, so if that's what we're talking about them yeah, it could easily have been a red I think.

Am I mad for thinking Toulouse have a better case for their disallowed goal at 50ish minutes when the defender tripped over his own feet than Liverpool do for the handballed goal?

That's way more of a red than Rashfords, at least he was in control of the ball and wasn't doing the splits.

You've probably seen at this stage but voila! Edit: I shared the first video I came across in a search on Twitter That's... pretty red IMO, yeah. Both on its own and in light of Rashford's. Only explanation I have (not an excuse, mind) is different refs and different tolerance levels, and until we fully automate refereeing (pretty much impossible, there's a massive amount of nuance, judgement calls and differing circumstances every match and every individual play, that an AI just couldn't work with IMO) that's going to be a factor... |

Both in UEFA competition so it really is pretty fucking ridiculous. I understand it's just people but that's less understandable when VAR is in the equation. Why and how is there a red issued for a relatively innocuous incident where there is zero appeal and no actual tackle and then...that? Surely what drove the VAR to review Rash was some level of guidance around this stuff and if so how can the tackle above happen less than 24 hours later in a competition with ostensibly the same guidance not be subject to the same criteria.
VAR just needs to be massively scaled back. In theory I like the idea of a challenge system with goals automatically being reviewed for offside.

Putting up with Trains to Sheffield the other weekend pushed me over If it’s like Marseille then you should be able to get one in T2 |

Certainly all good here. I walked home last night via the same street, from the same pub, alone last night and was blissfully thinking it seemed fine.
The lads are ok though- ones just turned up and had everyone singing his name, which quickly turned in to a chorus of 'there's fuck all wrong with you'

So to me, that was incredible despite the score. The doom and gloomers really try to put a dampener on things. Great few days away and still here until tomorrow. Plus - never a 4-0 game. Should still be in it if it weren't for lack of finishing/ blunders/ offside VAR calls. |
