We really need a striker. Enter Harry Maguire.

This is where his redemption arc begins and he becomes a Haalandesque powerhouse CF.

Good work from Arsenal, been a bit under pressure so a goal from Tierney is a decent way to relieve it.

Think we've got decent depth in defence this year but the dropoff in midfield quality is still massive. Smith Rowe barely playing hasn't helped though. We'd have had no chance with Champions League football this season.

This ref has been terrible.

1-0 did it then, Arsenal had a lot of chances they should have converted and I'm beginning to think Jesus has upset the football gods as he just can't get a goal.

This ref has been terrible. That pull on Eddie's arm in the first half as he's through on goal was outrageous.

Did we get a free for the shirt pull that ripped Tierney's shirt? Had to nip out and we were giving the ball back to them!

For a slightly different view on this competition, Shamrock Rovers finished with one point from these group stages and finished bottom of their group. As it is for anyone, the story has a few what-might-have-beens, but they've had their fun and now it is finished.
But for that slightly different view, Shamrock Rovers have gained nearly €3.5M for this run (and it is a big run of qualifying games for lower teams). To get into this competition they had to win the league in Ireland (and obviously a bunch of subsequent games). For that success in Ireland they earned circa €100,000 prize money (EPL champs >£40m).
Getting this far is like winning the league 35 times in a row in one year (kinda sorta) and they have a chance to break the depressing cycle here of shipping kids to elsewhere for their later development (and missing out on some partial transfer fees).
Everything else aside, it really was a great run by them. Got to love it as a minnow lover.

No yellow for some reason. Jesus was kicked and shoved around all night too. Thankfully wasn't injured by any of it.

Only caught the highlights but it doesn't seem like I missed too much.
Europa League group stages are deceptively tough. The constant rotation paired with a desire from players to conserve energy against talented opposition with nothing to lose makes it tricky. More than happy to see us move directly into the last 16.

Definitely. It's a much derided competition for reasons I don't quite get.

It's that fucking theme music I caught myself thinking I really hate that music last night but I think it's because I know every time I hear it we're in for a tough game. As for our game, Mr Ten Hag was clearly on the wacky backy, those were some interesting tactical experiments I hope he never uses again.

Definitely. It's a much derided competition for reasons I don't quite get. It's derided because it forgettable and boring until the knock out stage. On a recent Arsenal podcast they asked how many Europa league group games do you actually remember? I can barely remember any, including some from this season! If the objective was purely to create an interesting football competition it would be pure knock out like the FA Cup from the start. Anyway, it's extra weird this year. Just realised it's four months until our next Europa fixture. FOUR MONTHS!
