No I just think it's weird to comment on his abuse of hookers and mistresses that are made up!
Not that he's not an arsehole. Just a bit of a leap

It's Rod Liddle. Dude eats babies. I've seen him in Epping Forest just chowing down on raw infants, when a decent fire was burning away right next to him. Could have barbecued them but nah, only uncooked juvenile flesh would do, because it's Rod. Fucking. Liddle.

He's an open racist and bigot but let's not be mean about him. What's striking about the Liddle thing is that this Luckhurst bloke is personally mates with him, and has a long history of pretending they're mere fellow journos or w/e in order to defend Liddle. Seems like that happened again now he's in charge of a Uni, he's pretending like it was "just about free speech", when in fact it's more like "You can't walk out on my mate Rob!!!". Honestly he should be fired. Also the comments on the article from like 2010 or whenever Luckhurst wrote defending Liddle are fairly hilariously awful, lauding basic-bitch Islamophobia and so on. My big question is with people like Liddle, who there are boatloads of, what happens with them to change them from open-minded to mindless contrarians? Or were they always mindless contrarians, and when they were young that looked like being open-minded because they were being contrary to older people, not younger ones? I'm also astonished that people think they're "meticulous" in their arguments, when everything I've seen Liddle write (which is considerably more than I'd like) has basically been a well-edited/large vocabulary forum post, and like most forum posts of that kind is meandering, doesn't really have a point, and expresses a lot of ill-formed opinions. It's almost like a large slice of the intelligensia can't tell the difference between "knows a lot of words" and "actually has a brain". You'd think public school might have helped them out there - it sure helped me see the difference.

That so many were posho communists in their youth makes me think they just love an argument and wind up and it all just calcifies as they grow older until you can’t see where the line between genuine and trolling opinions is anymore

Being a communist and being a sexist, racist prick are not mutually exclusive.

Liddle is one example. Munira Mirza is another one, though in her case it kind of looks like straight-up successful communist infiltration ("entryism", I think it's called nowadays) of the Tories, because it's extremely hard to explain how not only her, but various other members of the Revolutionary Communist Party, who had, even after abandoning Trotsky, pretty extreme views, suddenly and simultaneously all transitioned to being Tory Eurosceptics. Given that their ideology at that point seems to have basically called for them to get themselves in positions of power/influence, I guess it's unsurpising. I see that I'm not the only one to notice - George Monbiot who writes for the Guardian has pointed it out before. Pretty weird shit though.

The new Sex and the City series is literally the wokest thing that ever happened. It’s actually painful. And I’m only 20 minutes into episode one. We’ve had five minutes of lockdown jokes that will make no sense in ten years, Carrie is now on a podcast about gender roles and queerness, being the awkward “cis-het female”, and Miranda spends several minutes apologising for mentioning a black woman has braids. It’s so, so bad. And apart from the actors and character names, appears to have been written by people who have never watched the original show.

It’s so, so bad. And apart from the actors and character names, appears to have been written by people who have never watched the original show. I mean, it's not actually woke, that's the problem. It's desperately trying to be hip and down with the kids and relevant despite being about three elite wealthy white women who live in bloody NYC, i.e. the very enemies of any actual kind of woke-ness. It's using modern lingo to try and signal this whilst still, in the end, being about the same three wealthy dullards (the only interesting one having left). When people talk about "virtue signalling" they're usually just being cunts, but here it's kind of accurate. The apologising to a the Black woman scene is actively anti-woke in real terms, like, it's condescending/patronizing/insulting. The writer is the same main writer from the original SatC, so yeah, he's just still a mediocre writer, and now he's terrible because he's trying to write stuff he doesn't really understand and he's 20 years older. So yeah we cannot sadly blame "kids today", it's the same old white gay man.

Shit I had high hopes for the Sex and the City reboot too. That's my weekend ruined. My wife introduced me to the original series, the characters are all terrible people but I can see why it was pretty groundbreaking for women when it first came out. The films are fucking awful though, and this is definitely more in the mould of the films.

My wife was a fan of the series. She thought the first film.was ok,, but hated the 2nd as it was just outright racist. Personally, I hate them all.

I like to hate watch the series. Even when it's not being problematic (without it realising) they're usually being insufferable cunts anyway.

But there's 90% of youtube, twitch and Channel4 to do that with, why bother with some pensioners that were tedious at best 20 years ago? Not trying to shame you, I think you can do better is all. Try Xhamster.com

Excellent sense of priority those guys.
