You know what, I watched a few docs about Queen and in all of them May often said that to him Freddie was a musician. He wasn't gay he was a musician to him. I do wonder if he still has a bit of denial about Freddie's sexuality.

Err.. so he's arguing that treating everyone equally, regardless of race, sex, etc... is bad because it prevents people treating everyone equally, regardless of race, sex, etc...  Does not compute. He should be supporting this wholeheartedly, based on his own arguments. There is a valid argument that getting rid of gendered awards could potentially have a negative effect in that it could mean female artists are overlooked - if every award goes to a white bloke you could argue that having an award for best female artist would mean there's a way that can't be pushed aside as easily.
But that wasn't May's argument at all.
May is just old enough to be irrelevant. I love Queen's music but they've not done anything of any importance for decades now, so I guess shouting at the clouds it is.

I had a lot of respect for Brian May as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and for being one of a handful of experts in 19th Century Stereoscopy (which he co-wrote a rather excellent book on called 'Diableries'), way more than I did for his twiddly-widdly guitar solos. Although that Starfleet tune still bangs.
But for this nonsense he can just get in the bin. I thought you were better than this, Dr. May! /shakes fist
