Played a chunk of the demo and graphically it is a huge step up for a Tales game. Lovely 60fps as well on PS5. Means the combat is really fluid. Feels like a very different game to a usual Tales game though, really looking forward to the fuck game coming out.

Played the demo last night and enjoyed it. Albeit, I got my arse handed to me by the boss creatures. I was fighting it and then realised I was dead after a few hits. Take it there's no other way to heal other than pause the game and choose the healing item or arte?

Symphonia is old enough to drink today apparently. Makes me feel old! Really enjoyed it back then and remains the only Tales game I've bothered to see through to completion.

I really like the demo, big step in graphical detail over Beseria (got that cheap on psn few months ago and have only played about 5 hours) should finish that but shiny new game

Gamespot gave it a 7, the lowest score at the time of positing this, which has got people in a tizzy. "Clickbait review" and all that. Personally if your game is largely 8/10 to 10/10, then you can be reasonably confident you'll like it. A 7 isn't even that bad.

I've hated previous Tales games (I finished Vesperia out of spite). But I want to play a JRPG and don't know if I'll be able to resist buying and hating another one.

To be honest, my dislike of them is the kind that nurtures and festers over the course of many hours, so I don't know that a demo will be all that much help. I’m enjoying it so far. There’s some UE weirdness like stutter, the camera feels too close on a PC monitor, I don’t like the over-sharpened filter on the textures and the music sounds like it was mastered in a tin can as all the bass seems to have been removed, but it does feel more like a “proper” Tales game than the first footage suggested. Lots of voice acting too, hopefully that keeps up.

The combat in this is nice step up from previous tales games, but the script is godawful.
