Debris field found apparently
A debris field has been discovered within the search area by an ROV near the Titanic, the US Coast Guard has just announced.
Hope that means this thing imploded and the occupants would have been crushed to death in a split second, because the alternative is just fucking terrifying.

Wanna know what's more terrifying?
If the debris is from sub, which means it most likely imploded, and this happened days ago when they lost contact, then where was the banging coming from?

Yeah that banging sounded very deliberate so I'm going to guess what ever caused the debris happened over the last few hours hours.

How did you hear it from all the way over here

Could the banging have been debris on debris or something natural related to the wreck? There’s a lot if metal down there

And that’s genuine audio is it? Why would anyone from the search team waste time producing and releasing that video?

'Landing frame and a rear cover from the submersible' among the debris'

This is going to make somebody a lovely, mediocre Netflix documentary one day

This is going to make somebody a lovely, mediocre Netflix documentary one day I'm sure tonight's Channel 5 doc will be a masterpiece.

And that’s genuine audio is it? Why would anyone from the search team waste time producing and releasing that video? It starts with a movie sonar ping, real sonar uses ultrasonic frequencies, at best you’d hear very short ticking pulses.

I mean how fucking naive do you have to be to not see that’s clearly a fake video someone posted for clout?

They already dismissed the banging noise earlier when they realised it was background ocean noise.

Look, when your Google alert goes off you have to blindly repost whatever it is without looking at at first.

read a twitter thread - thus upgrading my pub bore level - comparing the redundant systems on Deep-sea Challenger and this shonky death tube, things like:
Dcv1 has 12 thrusters, can retain full mobility if several fail. Titan has 4. If one fails you have a rotisserie Dcv1 ballast held on by electro magnets. Push a button and they drop. If there's a power failure they drop. If batteries run out they drop. Surface vessel can send an accoustic command to drop them. There's another manual method of dropping them from inside. And there's a wire in the system designed to corrode to nothing after 12 hours of sea exposure, again dropping ballast. Titan has a button.

Has the bit about the porthole only being rated to 1300m been confirmed?

At least it would have been quick. Probably best not to make subs out of carbon fibre.

With the benefit of hindsight, this should have had its own thread. It’s long passed ‘random’ and the fallout will go on for years regardless of the outcome

I won’t let the fallout affect development of the experimental deep sea submersible I’m currently building in my shed

They wanted, and by jove did they get, the authentic Titanic experience. I think the guy is much maligned.
