And it's once again half past three and I'm giving up. Been like this years and years, tried everything. 15 hours sleep per week on average, it'd be ace if I was one of these (mythical?) people who doesn't need a lot of sleep, but I really do need three times that.
The only thing that works is drugs, and the only small mercy is that after all these years doctors have no qualms prescribing them. But I build up a resistance to them so quickly they can only be used once a week, a four day gap at absolute minimum.
Usual pattern is 3-4 days of snatching 1 or 2 hours sleep a day, after four days I'm utterly useless and won't drive or do anything remotely responsible, the next day the hallucinations start, and the day after that I'll either pretty much collapse on the spot or pop sleeping pills.

You should try dreaming about me, apparently it helps.

Quite glad this hasn't surfaced for over a week. It's not 4am but I am bang awake and this is how it usually starts. 1 month insomnia spell incoming. Huzzah.

I'm going through another spell of waking at 3.30/4am. I am managing to get back to sleep for an hour or two listening to podcasts/sleep sounds but it still fucks me up. Need 7 hours uninterrupted (which I am sure for most seems like a pipedream)

I didn't sleep much at all last night. I kept my phone out of reach though. Kept worrying about stuff. Eventually one of my cats (obviously cold) wrapped up against me and that helped me sleep a bit.

Not too sure why but can't seem to sleep last couple of nights waking up at 2 tonight and again at 4.
Might be work issues as there is a number of problems that I'm trying to resolve.
Either way, hello morning people.

I’m in a truly stupid situation where I’m trying to quit caffeine for a month but the withdrawal headache is stopping me getting back to sleep
I’m now having a coffee. It’s dumb feeling like shit over this.

Sigh.
Back to work today. My brain is in overdrive warning me about all the things that could go wrong and has been for the last hour. My cats are -judging from their snoring- deeply concerned about my well-being.
I need to win the lottery.

the cats are only sleeping because they know you're up and doubtless about to prepare their brekky any minute

You're not wrong. The little sods seem to think 4am is a good time for a snack. They've been down, eaten and got back off to sleep, all the time maintaining utter indifference towards me.
Cats, gotta love em...

Lying here awake and my two cats are both snoring! I'm going to have words with them in the morning, they're just rubbing it in!
One thing I do need to do is get off technology, as I think it's impacting my sleep. So, I'm going to try and get off my phone this weekend. So, good day, good evening and good night 😉

After 2 bad nights following my booster, my brain decided that 3:45 was a good time to wake up worrying about work. Just the sheer volume of stuff that needs to be done with nowhere near enough time to do it in.
Going to have to push through a request for additional resource in the new year despite budget cuts. Doesn’t help me now though. I’m off all over Xmas and new year so I’m hoping I can at least forget about it for a while.
If it’s not kids or illness keeping me awake it’s work stress. Being an adult sucks sometimes.

This is definitely an area I've got to work on this next year. I'm not sleeping well at all. I've slept through only twice in the last few years (aka as far back as I can remember).
I think I need to exercise more, do relaxation exercises, use screens less and declutter my bedroom and my life. There's too much going on in my head and not much of it is useful. I need to improve my diet which is very samey and lacking in fresh food I think.

A couple of things that helped me were just not looking at the time when I woke up in the middle of the night and reminding myself that even if I wasn't asleep I was lying down in bed resting and no one was around to tell me I should be doing something more useful. Neither of those is a miracle cure but they did help me not to wind myself up even more.

Try to focus on how comfy it is and if that doesn't work go have a pee, get cold (but relieved) and focus on how nice it is being back in bed, then visualise some nonsense like that time you were a dog and found A STICK. AND ANOTHER STICK

Unfortunately I'm up yet again with a massive pain the jaw and waiting for the drugs to kick in.
Looks like a side effect of the booster jab I had on the 23rd. Need to speak to the GP really as I'm at the limit of paracetamol and ibuprofen allowance just to keep on top of the pain. Ow!

Doesn't sound like a booster side effect after 5 days, I reckon you're off to the dentist In the meantime get some co-codamol from a pharmacy and prepare for a nap

It does Danno. It settles down eventually. Remember though, a disturbed night's sleep without alcohol is better than a comatose night due to alcohol. Alcohol really screws up the brain's sleep wave patterns.

Told me to get an emergency booking at the GP. GP was really good and did a lot of tests and consulted with other GPs while I was there. Ended up saying it was most likely a side effect of the vaccine and should clear up in 2 weeks. Keep taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. Pain has been really bad though and its a struggle to keep to the 8 paracetamol and 3x2tablets of ibuprofen in a 24hr period. I no longer think that paracetamol is mostly a placebo though. I can almost set my watch from waking at 3am in heavy pain, taking them, and starting to feel some relief after 20mins and being able to try to sleep again after an hour.

Co-codamol man, it's the only way you'll get decent pain relief after a few days of the off the shelf stuff, just don't use it too often or for more than a couple of days straight

Wah-hey, awake again!
Managed to pull something around my rib muscles/cartilage last night via getting up every hour or so to pee, get water or shake my fist at the sleepgods, so now I can only lie on one side, grumbling. The joys of aging.
