Was just wondering if the guy who directed the Shazam films had tweeted anything lately so thanks for this. He's tweeted more since then, here's an update

Received my Cinema Paradiso discs the other day (the film rental by post service, not the actual film) and one of them was Zack Snyder's Justice League. I added it to my list around the time it came out having mild interest in seeing what it was like. Now it is here though I'm not sure I can really be bothered with a four hour cut of a bad film.
Is it really worth my time? Is it easy to watch in hour or so chunks?

Nobody can tell you what you’ll get out of it but yes, it’s literally divided into hour or so chunks.

To the point that it feels like binging a miniseries.

Ah ok. That makes it more manageable. I'll give a section or two a go and see if it is worth sticking with.

Yeah, easily split up into smaller chunks. I'm probably totally misremembering here, but it might even have title cards for each of the four parts. It's worth a watch imo.

Yes each part is clearly separated and titled. It was at one point a miniseries.

Back to Shazam, I saw a review that said something along the lines of 'this feels like an early 2000s Ghost Rider-era movie where they were still trying to work out what a superhero movie is'.
I still cant quite believe they bothered to release it at all. Its got straight to HBO written all over it.

I really don't get Shazaam. Who is the audience? Why would anyone care about characters/antagonists created purely for CGI fights.
Cramming in big names like Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren just feels cynical. Did they read the script and think fuck yeah, this space dragon god really has depth and breadth!
Everything about it feels utterly mediocre. Though I thought the first was completely forgettable as well.

The first one, I kind of get as a one and done but having superman and the rock in its orbit but never really mention it just feels so meaningless.

The original got far too much credit, presumably because people were desperate for a non terrible DC film.
The premise is quite fun, but ultimately only makes for a small amount of entertainment and laughs. The best friend is so, so hateable. The effects are pretty rubbish, particularly in the final part, which descends into yet another big, dumb fight against some very forgettable monsters.
6 out of 10 at best.

The original was mostly fine. It had colour and some smiles, so at least is an improvement on what DC films have been mostly known for (perhaps unfairly now, what with Wonder Woman, Aqua Man and The Suicide Squad).
Really though, if you want boy suddenly becomes a man go watch Big and if you want teenagers suddenly get superpowers go watch Chronicle.

Miracleman which for my money is the greatest comic book series of all time (the Alan Moore ones obviously) is a take on Shazam.
An HBO series of Miracleman with similar reverence to the Watchman series would be incredible.

I enjoyed Shazam 1, and it was a nice change of pace from all the other grimdark DC movies at the time, and a good movie for kids. I was a bit mystified by quite how much love it got though.

Pretty much desperation from DC fanboys to have anything to cheer for is my reading of it.

I’d completely missed the fact that Miracleman is now Marvel property and officially integrated into the Marvel Universe.

I’d completely missed the fact that Miracleman is now Marvel property and officially integrated into the Marvel Universe. They have been teasing new material for like a decade. I think they intended to follow up directly from him kissing Kid Miracleman then it all kind of fell into a grinder. I’m almost kind of glad they haven’t done anything with it.

They’ve nearly finished the Silver Age. Just one issue left to go. But I don’t what’s going on with the main Marvel universe and how it’s connected. I kind of lost interest. It’s the Shenmue 3 of comics.

I’m waiting for the final issue before I read them. I think there was also a Grant Morrison one shot based on a script he wrote in the 80s that was never used.

I was bored of the Rock by his third big action film. Now we have Black Adam and the idea of seeing his peanut head for the hundredth is beyond tiresome.
Annie, Sly even JCVD were better beefcake action heros. I don't know if it's just the sheer volume of films churned out or the quality but he is way past saturation point for me.
I'd have been more interested in Black Adam if he wasn't in it.
