From the trailer this doesn't seem to be doing anything new or interesting. It looks dull as dishwater.

Fuck me, that looks good. I was ready to be cynical after Lukus' post, but that is giving me heavy Batman Begins vibes, which for me is still the best DC film, regardless of the hype for Dark Knight.
I'm all the way in.
Didn't watch the Flash trailer because Ezra can fuck right off.

Absolutely loved Matt Reeves' Apes films (Dawn is one of a handful of films I've seen more than once in the cinema), so have pretty high hopes for this one. I watched all the Apes films back to back the other day and the jump in quality from the first to Reeves' films is marked. The first is perfectly adequate and had the burden of having to set everything up but it's so generic with pantomime villains. When Dawn begins with the closeup of Caesar's eyes and slowly zooms out you know this is a director who knows exactly what he's doing. Dawn and War are excellent but fuck they get bleak, for blockbusters.

I'm sure The Batman will be good - maybe even the best live-action Batman film so far? - but Christ on a bike I am so bored by dark, realist takes on Batman. I'm not saying go all Schumacher again, but making the Riddler a guy who - in the trailer at least - comes across as a cross between Jigsaw and John Doe from Seven just feels so utterly first-base. Why can't he just be a bank robber who wants people to think he's cleverer than Batman? Why can't the Penguin just be a corrupt guy who owns a nightclub? Why can't Batman have auto-gyros and a sci-fi closet?
I dunno. Batman is my favourite superhero* but I feel like we've had mostly similar takes on him for at least twenty years now, if not thirty, whereas there are tons of variations in the comics that never get explored cinematically. It's like if the last three Bonds in a row had been Lazenby, Dalton and Craig.
*technically my favourite superhero is Nightwing, but, y'know.
Anyway. That's my whinge. Sorry to drag the thread down.

Agreed. That trailer did absolutely nothing for me. I mean, yeah, it looks alright but I think I’ve had exactly as much Batman as I need for one lifetime.

I'm willing to give Reeves the benefit of the doubt as I love his work but yeah, I would rather they do something different than Batman everytime things get lean.

Do people want different though? The wining Marvel cut and paste formula has done extremely well for them for so long because that's what people want to go and see. They're on Fast 9 and 10 and 11 are coming in. You've got a Conjuring universe etc. The Batman might "look" the same but if it really is a almost three hour detective noir in the Seven mould then that's definitely not been done before in a Batman film. I'm hoping for the best but I really don't want a massive runtime on this film.
The Flash looks really good. Michael Keaton in a rather significant role gets me hyped and Batfleck has been confirmed as being in it, so anything could happen.
Not bothered about any of the others. Wonder Woman 3 in being made which is no surprise but WW84 was an absolute disaster IMO.

Does the Flash look good, I mean we barely saw anything to get any kind of impression.

Does the Flash look good, I mean we barely saw anything to get any kind of impression. It may be bobbins but I got the whole nostalgia thing from the Danny Elfman score snippet, Michael Keaton having a role on a par with Sean Connery in The Last Crusade in terms of screen time, Supergirl is in there and that they can now literally go anywhere with this. May introduce some new DC characters. Multiverse of Madness is out 8 months before this so it's going to be beaten to the lunch. Hell, Spider-Man will start to cover it in December.

I've said it before but a really stylish bronze age 70s Batman, Neal Adams style, with all the outre stuff they brought back (giant typewriters and coins),Silver St Cloud and a more trippy, psychedelic villain like Hugo Strange or Maxie Zeus would be cool. I'd certainly pay to watch it.

Unless they end up doing multiple Batman films in multiple timelines (which WB May do) we’re getting a trilogy of films with Patman. Anything new and different won’t be until these are completed. I’m sure one of the WB execs talked about having multiple different Batman films so maybe Flash will open that up. Or they’ll just do it anyway. But they’ll probably do the same thing again. Only slightly differently.

I'd certainly pay to watch it. When I was being my usual nerd self and imagining what a new Bat-verse could look like post-Nolan (but pre-Batfleck), I had this idea where you'd do something fairly down-to-earth and noirish that - in my head - actually looked a fair bit like The Batman. But the twist would be that for the first time this young "realistic" gritty Batman would encounter something legit supernatural and inhuman - Ra's Lazarus Pits or Strange and the Monster Men, maybe even Poison Ivy controlling plants. It'd be the juxtaposition of the noirish Batman suddenly realising all his training doesn't measure up to actual straight-up magic or aliens. That's kind of what I hoped we'd get in Batman V Superman, actually; some sort of introspection where Batman's thinking "what's the point" but then decides he can take it on anyway. Maybe in The Batman 2: Gotham Boogaloo.

I have zero interest in any of the current dc films so the flash wasn’t on my radar until I read on a site that Keaton is playing his version of Batman again.
The flash is still shit though

I wasn't sure about the Batman trailer. Just looked dark and moody. A bit boring for a trailer.
But then the first Suicide squad had a great trailer and was pure trash.

I love Fraser and I'm happy he's in Batgirl, but has Firefly ever been seen as a Batgirl villain? Has she had significant run-ins with him in the comics?

I'm not sure, but there's definitely a thing within WB/DC where the big heroes, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, are seemingly exclusive to the big screen, and some of their foes or storylines are being adapted for the b-characters. Arrow having a long story arcs focused on Batman characters such as Ra's Al Ghul or Huntress being similar examples.

Okay, true, but it took them some time to get there. They had to introduce him through Supergirl first, and even then it was mostly Kara mentioning "my cousin" for the first season or two. And that was another case where they adapted Superman storylines for Supergirl. First thing to come to my head would be the Bizarro episode.

I think it’s mostly that they were trying not to create multiple parallel versions across media, but after Justice League shit the bed they accepted it was better to have something successful with the trinity rather than nothing. Superman now has the show, The Batman movie is coming up and WW is getting a 3rd film.
I don’t know the character that well but I don’t think GA has much in the way of notable villains. Supergirl too. Not disagreeing with you that they did it, just think it’s a fairly logical process. Ras wasn’t going to be used in any films again after Batman Begins, so he was free to build around in Arrow.

Watched the recent Batman trailer. It looks good, but it looks much more generic-batman-movie than the first trailer did. Take out the slo-mo Nirvana and you're basically just watching a repeat of stuff you've mainly seen before.
Catwoman looks fine, but I don't think it was a good idea putting her in as it just makes it too similar to Dark Knight Rises.
I was thinking it was going to be more of a Batman Year Zero type deal.
I'm well down for a Batgirl movie, though I kinda wish they'd gone for the Cassandra Cain version not the more familiar Barbara Gordon one.
