At least there’s the proper rugby tournament to look forward to in a few months

Dumb question but why did the NZ player attempt that pass at the end? It was deep in s.a. territory so why not hold on to it and keep attacking to get maybe a very kickable pen?
I must dislike s.a. because before the game I was insisting to myself that I'd enjoy the final because I'm a neutral so it would be calm and fun. Nope, I was angry nearly the entire match like I was born in New Zealand.

I thought the Frizell yellow could've been upgraded - partial neck-roll + awkward landing = two card-worthy offences in as many seconds - but leaving it as a yellow didn't seem egregious.
Kolisi was probably saved because he'd made an obvious effort to bend at the waist, unlike Cane.
It was a poor game, but it certainly didn't lack in the drama stakes - more random twists and turns than an episode of Hollyoaks.

I couldn't sit for the last 20 minutes. Obviously I'm happy, but do feel for AB's - never looked like they had 14 men. They're my 2nd fav team.
But well done Bokke - hanging in there since the QFs.

Loved that, dunno what you're all on about. Just when it looked like it was going to peter out with the red card, NZ stepped up a level and fought for every chance, every inch, with RSA holding it together, but only just. Drama won out over champagne rugby but the intensity was high all the way to the end. Already looking forward to the QF exit in 2027.

Expected a low scoring game and was disappointed by the level of TMO involvement. If you don't watch a lot of rugby and you tuned into the WC final it's unlikely to convert you to a regular viewer.
Never been a fan of a red for a head clash, over 300 tackles made in that game and with big height differences between players it's inevitable there will be clashes. They look bad in slow motion but are sometimes unavoidable, it was 100% a card but a red? Tough call.
I guess the consistency makes it worse. The forearm from Etzebeth which was a blatant card for me or the disallowed try, TMO is supposed to go back a maximum of 2 phases I think?
Anyway we missed two kicks and against SA in a final you can't afford to not take those points.
I thought there were great games this tournament but an SA v NZ final was unlikely to be high scoring or super entertaining match for the neutral.

Speaking of rugby retirements, Wayne Barnes has announced that he's hanging up his boots: www.englandrugby.com/news/article/wayne-barnes-announces-retirementA big loss to the game, in my view - he wasn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but I felt he was the best in the business. Also, the abuse he has suffered in recent times (including after the RWC final last month) is utterly deplorable. Fuck those people.

Watching Glasgow vs The Stormers, the Stormers have managed to get 2 yellow cards in a minute, both for beyond the vertical tip tackles. It's fucking old school.

The RFU has to do something regarding its overseas selection policy. Leaving this guy* out in the cold beyond next year's Six Nations is just plain stupid: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/67401692* Plus Jack Willis and Joe Marchant.

Mad that they are still persisting with that policy given the issues with the pro game.

He probably wouldn’t get much of a look in even if he stayed in England, he doesn’t fit the borthwick winger profile plus rumours that Farrell doesn’t like him

It's even more draconian considering that there are only 10 top-flight English teams now, all of which* are operating within a reduced salary cap, so there just isn't room for all the England contenders to ply their trade in the Premiership.
* Except for one, of course.

There must be, it's just so incredibly badly managed. Ireland and New Zealand manage it with 4 but the Union has a lot of control over the teams. Scotland can't quite with only 2 professional sides, but like 75% of the squad fits in Edinburgh and Glasgow, if they actually had operating budgets like Leinster the marque players wouldn't always be leaving for France.

Dupont skipping the 6 Nations next year to concentrate on 7s with the Olympics coming up. A bit strange but fair enough, I guess. I don't watch that much French club rugby though so I'll miss watching him play.

If the commentators in the Harlequins vs. Saracens game will insist on creaming themselves over "Sarries" and their "world-class" squad, they could at least remember to include the caveat that Saracens built said squad by cheating.
