Sexton looked his age at the end, stiff as a board.

An absolutely excellent game.
Kudos to Ireland for taking it right to the wire; kudos to the All Blacks for a damn good performance.

Imagine receiving the ball after phase 107,
"Piss off I got nothing left lads!"

Fine margins between two excellent sides. I really wanted Ireland to do it and 'just' a quarter-final doesn't seem a fair return for this generation.
On the plus side, a narrow win for Borthwick's mighty whites and a narrow loss for France tomorrow would mean that we're definitely the best northern hemisphere team.

Crazy game, felt like a final.
I can see Ireland needing a few years to rebuild now. Shattered confidence and Sexton, Murray, PoM, Henshaw, Furlong etc won't be around much (or any) longer.
Woe betide anyone who has to interview Sexton in a few minutes, he looks like he's about to open a portal to hell to fight the devil.
Could be all SH semis now. ALLES LES BLEUS!!

Jordie Barret holding up that try was huge.

Imagine receiving the ball after phase 107, "Piss off I got nothing left lads!" That pretty much happened on around phase 29. Can't remember who it was but one the Irish forwards caught a pass stood stock still and more or less collapsed on the spot bereft of any energy or ideas or possibly just not trusting himself to do anything else. Don't blame him.

Jordie Barret holding up that try was huge. Yup, turning point. Herculean.

It was an amazing effort, and they got closer to the NZ try line than they had any right to, given how far back on the pitch they started (and how knackered they all were).
I would've liked to see Ireland go through.
Glad to see Wales go out, though - any sympathy I had for them evaporated at the sight of Biggar waving his arms at Dickson during the ruck from which Argentina got their first try. A petulant brat to the end.
I'll be fine with a Fiji victory tomorrow, although I'm certainly not expecting one. Just hope France can beat the Boks.

We're all french now. Though Argentina have got a hell of a whirlwind coming their way for the first semi.

I suspect a lot of England fans would prefer to lose to Fiji tomorrow when the only other realistic scenario appears to be total humiliation by France or South Africa a week later.

I missed most of the game, due to a poorly timed 90s music quiz I'd been dragged along to. But luckily the other guy who had been dragged along was also a sports fan, so watched the laat 10 on my phone. Huge props to Ireland for even getting anywhere near the try line, they looked fucked. Disappointed to miss it, and for Ireland. Doesn't seem fair tbh

I'm massively out of touch (no pun) with rugby recently. What's the hate towards England about at the moment?

Terrible discipline.
A coach who plays the most boring and safe kicking rugby imaginable despite having access to great players.
Limited captain who has a cult of personality around him.
Overconfidence going in to a quarterfinal in spite of playing against middling sides who had poor performances against us.
We are insufferable as fans. We moan too much or are overconfident.

Rather handy try there and of course Farrell can't convert.

England's gameplan of playing kicking rugby, safe passes and letting their opponents make mistakes trying to play in the midfield has worked brilliantly.
