I know who is going to Saudi at least. Gonna be the last payday for all aging pros at this point.

Think he was linked with arsenal for a good 10 years.
EA would always have it set for him to be transfered by the close of each transfer window in every new fifa.

My greatest ever Football Manager side was Arsenal with a front three of Dzeko flanked by Benzema and Lukaku

Guess Saudi Pro leagues is now the new MLS for ageing players who want a nice fat final pay cheque.
Surprised though, since I thought Benzema would have had a few decent years left, maybe not at quite the same level, but he fairly knows where the goal is!

Saudi league clubs about to be like those default teams you start with in Master League mode in Pro Evo. Like how you start with a largely shite team and maybe one player was 80+.

With all the relevant asterisks for human rights in place, Messi beating Ronaldo to the Saudi title is quite funny

I hope sand doesn't interfere with benzema's weird electro-stimulation exercise/recovery routine suit. That shit will chafe.

Bigger decline than Dele?(form wise)

Nah. Dele embarrassed himself by playing like shit for a shit team in a shit league. Hazard just did the sensible thing and didn’t play ever again so nobody knows how far he’s fallen.

Can't help but love Claudio. 94th minute winner to put Cagliari up into Serie A. Awesome.

Definitely an odd appointment and I'm not sure it will work out. I can't believe they managed to piss Spalletti off so much so that he left. They must have been aware of what he was like, so to treat him as they apparently have done and piss him off is hilariously poor management.

My basic understanding is that his contract with the club had a clause where they could extend his contract by a year after two years. They tried to extend his contract by enforcing this contract without talking to him about it first. He doesn't like that sort of thing and it's well known, so he has decided to fuck them off and and go to make wine in tuscany again for a year until he is free to manage again.
The athletic had an article about it a few weeks back when it all started happening. There was a dinner with de laurentis and some other big wigs when he told them he was not staying on. That would have been an interesting meeting I'm sure!

Or maybe he's just still pissed off that the ultras nicked his fiat panda the season before and didn't give it back.

Pretty interesting what's happening with Mbappe. PSG trying to force him out and are determined to deny him a free transfer.
However given his salary (which we've covered before), his options are almost non-existent outside Saudi. Only Madrid are likely willing to match his wages but it seems as though even they haven't budgeted for it this summer (it requires a chunk of planning and book cooking) and are therefore unlikely to bid.
So that leaves the money that Saudi had earmarked for Messi. Rumours are that they are essentially willing to 'waste' vast sums by paying a transfer fee to PSG and then only offering Mbappe a one-year deal so he can join Madrid next summer as he wants. Maybe they'll loan him to Newcastle (not read this anywhere, just musing), although that's a surefire way to generate the sort of controversy they appear to be trying to avoid. So most likely he's either going to be sidelined at PSG or playing mickey mouse football in the desert where no ones watching.
In any case the best footballer in the world is basically being wasted in what should be his prime. If he wasn't French and playing in World Cup Finals every four years he'd be starved of a worthy platform altogether. There's a strong argument that if he isn't playing regular, elite competitive football he shouldn't be picked next summer.
I'm not sure he's even really improved as a footballer since he went to PSG. He's been allowed to do nothing off the ball, and has become an absolute luxury player, so no sensible team will buy him. Really he needs a reset at a serious Champions League club with a manager that will push him, but I'm not sure it will happen. Not convinced his eventual move to Madrid will even be a success unless he's prepared to play a totally different way.
It's another case of football just seeming broken right now.

My bet is that no transfer will happen for the reasons you just said and he’ll sit on the bench for the first few games before they return him to the starting XI like nothing happened.
Alternatively Madrid might start selling some players to raise the money but they don’t seem to have the depth they once did and I’m not sure they’ve got many they can actually afford to lose that other clubs might pay decent money for.
