But DO you remember it exists? Or merely that you recall the fact that you once saw a game that you subsequently forgot all about?

Narco (XS via GP)
Much like Kentucky Route Zero I can see how in terms of writing there is an intriguing and well structured game here. However like KRZ I find the graphical style too off putting, the setting too obtuse, the gameplay pretty non existent and overall it is just not engaging me (about 1.5hrs played so I have given it a reasonable go).
So moving on but I can imagine that if you are a gaming, sci if/fantasy loving, blazing up on a weekend kinda hipster this could be right on your noodle.
I guess a bit like me, it’s just not for everyone… and that’s alright.

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage

This might explain the Barley and general lack of enthusiasm. I need sleep! I’ll come back to this at some point.

Fair play to you, I found Valhalla just tiresome with conversations and characters I didn't give a shit about all presented in such a dry way. I skipped Mirage for this reason. There are so many better games deserving my money at this time.

I skipped Valhalla as it seemed a 100+ hours chore and better to watch the ending on YT. Mirage looks like they took all the bad things from the 1st game and said "well you wanted something like the older games!!!!" People wanted stealth based but improved, skillup made a good point in his review about the same issue
Forza motorsport 2023 While it drives nice and looks great, the builders cup (single player) is so boring, they really need to improve how they do this as its same old thing for at least since 4. Also the early races have large lap numbers instead of smaller number of laps, no doubt to pad the game out

Padding the game out by making you race. It's absolutely unconscionable. I'm actually considering a strongly worded letter to my MP, etc. etc.

Take xcom style combat, 1930's style pulp noir and lovecraft style monsters but its a broken mess. Thats Lamplighters league
It runs badly on series X (not even put on last gen) it seems it was not even tested on retail series X as runs out of memory on retail machines (dev xbox have more memory) It looks like a mobile game, the character models can look poor at times. If you reload a save, it crashes to dash, finish a mission and it can crash. They limited the amount of saves and it runs badly still
But the combat can be really fun when you are not spammed with enemies (you can use limited takedowns if not spotted) mixing up character skills can lead to some good moments. If they did the 30's pulp noir better and not a broken mess, it would of been good

I dropped just cause 4. I did not enjoy first 1 and half hour Thought I can explore and fly around and blow shit up
But
Doesnt look good, looks like a game from 2012 at times.
Shooting felt like crap.
Enemy ai is just dumb and spawns non-stop and then charge like brainless zombies with cars flying
Story felt so stupid. So you attack some tower which can weather control. Game makes references which i dont get. Then you end up in a town and immediately start a revolution after an idiotic cutscene
And also your character makes issue about his broken equipment but two screwdriver turns and its working perfectly.
And cutscenes are prerendered and look like garbage
Meh. Too much nonsense in first hour and half for me to waste my time on it.

I never bothered with JC4 apart from loading it up and just quitting after a few minutes. General consensus seems to be that it's a low point in the series and to just play 2 or 3 instead.
Which is a shame, as they seemed to have the formula nailed and it should've been a sure thing.

My problem with JC3 was all the open world shit they added to it.
Oh, so you want to play with this cool new toy? Not until you do these timed challenges! Aren't you interested in the leaderboards and beating your friends?
No no NO I AM NOT, THIS IS A JUST CAUSE GAME, I WOULD LIKE TO BLOW SHIT UP AT MY LEISURE PLEASE

A shame about The Lamplighters League, but it reminds me I’ve got Mutant Year Zero to finish and I have yet to buy the Mario Rabbids DLC.

It drops to bottle of coke from vending machine price fairly often.

I played them all - if you liked JC3 then you'll like JC4. In the very least I think it runs at a higher res, although I might be dreaming that. JC3 was the better game for sure, but both scratched that itch and both were so janky it took a while to kinda settle into the jank and enjoy it for what it is. 90 minutes is basically taking all of the pain and then getting none of the upside.

Played some of JC4 on gamepass and it was awful, there was horrible missions where you had to do protect things with a turret. Also a lot of the missions were a bit shit

Never got the love for the Just Cause games. Mercenaries was the game that deserved the sequels that JC got in the "here's some cool toys, go blow shit up" genre.

JC = The Expendables film in gaming form…
Good for some mindless fun but plug your ears or your brain will be dribbling out before you know it!

I never particularly liked them either, shitty gunplay and boring enemies. Tried to play a few different ones and bounce off them every time.

JC2 was brilliant, if needlessly huge. Amazing that they made the sequels so much worse given how simple the formula is.

Once they added the Wingsuit to and the grappling hook the games were seriously elevated (no pun intended). It really is up there as one of the most fun traversal systems ever put in a game. Everything else about them is ropey as fuck, obvs. But I still like them. Very few games let you steal a 747. Bail out after takeoff, wingsuit down, and commandeer a chopper in mid air.

I remember quite enjoying the demo for JC2, not least because of the silly physics, but when I later put a few hours into the full version I somehow never got along with it. Partially just because apparently the game never saves unless you get to a specific location?!? Lost progress a few times and just stopped.

Like a dragon: Ishin.
It's got that thing that I really dislike about the Yakuza games, really shit bosses. I just don't get any enjoyment out of them and they just feel shit to fight against. It's a shame as I generally enjoy the games outside of that.

See you make it sound so much fun but in reality I found it awful to play. It's definitely one you have to play for what it is, not what one thinks it should be. It definitely can't go toe to toe with shooters, or 3rd person action titles, or more varied open worlds. But as an Explosion Sandbox? Absolute comfort food. That helicopter I mentioned (that I commandeered in mid-air from my 747 drop) would be turned on the nearest un-liberated town or base. Boom! Whoosh! Basically, if it has devolved to shooty bangs with guns that's the last resort. All about the 'splosion. But fuck me is it janky as all hell. Ropey animation. Ropey controls (with the exception of the wingsuit). Annoying escort missions. All the usual moans. But I've still completed all four of the bloody things and I'd probably play a fifth!
