BB has a very downward trending difficulty curve though even with that. It's only the DLC that really delivered late game challenge IMO.

I want to love it but I'm just absolutely shit at it. I'm not terrible with Dark Souls, Seikieieieiro, et al, but Bloodborne there's something fundamental I just can't grasp. The boardgame is great though, I'll just play that. I found it harder than any Souls game. I got the parrying down in those pretty well, but couldn't do it for shit here, which I think makes some bosses ten times harder than need be.

I found Unseen Village and Mensis pretty damn tough the first playthrough, (not helped by a big dollop of arachnophobia) and Ebrietas absolutely murdered me about 20 times before I gave up and summoned help

Orphan is stil a bastard. I've never been able to work out his second pattern. First phase of the fight is easy, after that it's just flailing about in blind panic, hoping he dies before I run out of health vials

Yeah the parrying makes a lot of fights a piece of piss but it took me about 7,000 playthroughs to actually get the hang of it.

Honestly, tough as Orphan was, like almost everything in Bloodborne I don't think I ever really learned what it does. I fought it the same way I fought everything, which was getting up in its face and then dodging diagonally toward it through all its attacks. Bar one or two moves it works for basically everything.

If it makes you feel any better/worse about the price, the core retail game is practically a demo and you really need multiple expansions to make it shine. Ouch..I've bought the base game and I'll see how I get on. I'll definitely grab the cainhurst expansion if I love it.

I slightly regret platting it, because I haven't put it on since. Sort of feels like there isn't a lot else I can do, although maybe trying to get some DLC weapons really early on could draw me back to it. I don't think I used the Boomhammer or Bloodletter in a build yet I've platinumed it and I still replay it at least once a year. It's such an amazing game and I want to try as many of the weapons as I can.

There's still a few I haven't tried either actually. Boomhammer is one. Don't think I've used the cannon either.
It is endlessly replayable though.

I never did get past that fucking spider. It's been living rent free in my head for about 3 years now.

I've been and gone and stuck this on and just the opening music has its hooks in. Gonna see if I can do a low level run to get Maria's swords or, at least, the Bowblade
Also you're all turds

The bowblade is just super. That opening music is immense though, those low strings that greet you when it boots up, grabs you by the gahooleys each time.

Headphones are the only way to play it. Especially freaky once you get a whole ton of insight and constantly hear Mergo crying in the background. The sound design is so good.
I'm still dipping into random chalice dungeons and there are some right weird things in there, but it's when you hear the telltale pitter patter of spiders in a room nearby that you start to get really unnerved, or the slurping of a bloodlicker that's appeared because you've visceraled something, left and then returned to that area.

You're making me want to start this again. I was so relieved to have finished it, I shelved it almost immediately, so I've not played any DLC or messed around with any of the weirder weapons. Think I ended up with a fuck-off huge sword that turned into something else.
I got as far as making a character last night, and got my arse handed to me by the first mob, so I turned it off. I was a bit drunk in fairness though.

I sometimes struggle on cleric beast simply because it's the worst fight in the game because the camera is always trying to kill you. Great start to it though the way it screams and jumps over the wall. Gascoigne I find much easier as I can see what's going on.

Cursed Watchdog down second try! Fuck yeah! Of course having my arse handed to me by many other bosses at the moment, namely Cursed Amygdala, Loran Darkbeast, Isz Ebrietas and bloody Martyr Logarius AGAIN (NG+1).

That watchdog can be a long fight with a OHK. For Amygdala, there's an easy mode option if you hug one if it's back legs. Got me through the half health one without getting much of a scatch, but it's a longer fight as you're hacking it's limbs. Failing that, just stay in front, bait it's slams and go to town on it's big stupid head every time it lowers it. I have nothing for Logarius as I fucking hate him.

Gascoigne is so open for parrying, even after the transformation. Once had his beast form jump right out of the map through the buildings on the right and die. Still got the kill. Took me a few seconds to work out what had just happened
Always played with headphones but never noticed the crying. The audio in Hypogeon Gaol is so oppressive though
Scariest part of the game for me is the witches boss fight. They're super easy but the first time I played it, those summoned enemies really freaked me out and I was waiting for them to suddenly rush me the whole fight. Never took a single hit, which I think made it worse becuse it would have at least relieved the tension. It still makes me uncomfortable now

Dura's mate just parried my blood vial right as the minigun was sweeping over. 7k echoes canned as I'd gotten cornered by two wolves downstairs a moment prior.

I've not had much luck on his back legs as I lose concentration and get walloped since it takes so long. Going from the mid-distance front is likely more fun, so will keep trying with that (that technique worked like a charm for Watchdog, but Amygdala is on a whole other level).

Off the top of my head for Logarius, you can dash through his annoying skull attack for a good attack opportunity. If you can get him against the back wall he won't be able to dash back away from you and you can really get some damage in. For the second phase, you can parry his diving attack - I usually rely on that to finish him off. It's annoying that it breaks lock on when he flies up but you can reaquire it in time
