It’s kind of baffling how badly they fucked this up. Did they though? The hype is unreal. Number 1 trending thing on hypebeast, stores having to close due to security concerns, they will sell millions of these things

Apparently not a standard spring bar, though I haven't got one to confirm. Which might make strap changes tricky. The strap looks bloody awful in the hands on videos, would be a shame if you couldn’t swap it

It has been confirmed you can change the strap with a spring bar tool. Pictures of people with them on natos already
The YouTube grey market shills are in melt down over this at the moment. They hate this watch, which just makes me like it even more

Instead they doubled down and posted photos on Instagram about it being super popular. I'd be livid if I'd lined up in London. Fights and the police having to manage their security.

An apology admits you got it wrong, just blame the public for fucking it up for themselves

They could do something like "We're honoured and humbled by the huge interest in our new MoonSwatches. We're sorry if we ran out of stock of your favourite model on launch day. But don't worry: this isn't a limited edition, there will be more stock soon in all Swatch stores worldwide and you'll also be able to order one online soon. All for the great price of CHF 250."
Then plaster that all over, which will cause scalper prices to plummet and, who knows, maybe people who actually want to buy one for themselves might be able to get one in stores.

The problem wasn’t running out of stock, the London shops had to shut before they could sell any

Hype is great but making it exclusive to a couple of stores with not even a semblance of a plan of how to sell them ain’t great. I know it’s helped create a buzz but there’s no reason why they couldn’t have dumped a few online, too. They would still have had queues at the shops, just probably not dangerous ones.

Did anyone wander in today? No news of crowds reported, I wonder if you could have strolled in at 12 and picked up the unsold stock from yesterday

Worldwide, stock was very much the problem, most stores only got 100 MoonSwatches in total. That was predicted though, as far as can be ascertained other flagship cities sold their allocation in an orderly manner. It’s just the London shops that fluffed it and folk who travelled in from Cardiff to camp outside all night didn’t even get the chance to buy one. Scalpers aren’t a problem Swatch are concerned about, they just fuel the hype train

Shame that the Uranus model is so ugly. "How do you like my Mission to Uranus" would be a fantastic pick-up line.

I have to say, the Mercury is probably even more sexy than the original Moonwatch (except the band):

I had a speedy about 7 or 8 years ago that I flipped (needed quite a bit of work). The original is a tasty looking watch, but it's made out of butterfly wings and wishes. And the crystal was plastic.
Whatever this is made out of, it can't be less flimsy.

Except for scratches in the hesalite, what do you mean?

Well, the movement had been broken because whoever had it had pressed the stop and reset pushers at the same time or something, which did a number on the stopwatch mechanism and something was rattling about inside the case. The hesalite was cracked and the winder had been replaced with some after-market number that just so happened to sort of fit. Maybe it's previous owner was a gorilla, but I didn't get the feeling that it was built for anything more than very careful use.

A friend of mine scratched the lens of his 2005-ish Speedmaster on his pestle and mortar. I shoved him in the direction of a local jeweller who buffed it out for him (matron).
Other than that, I hadn’t heard they weren’t robust.

As robustness goes, I'd put it on the level of a dress watch. Fine for office and whatnot, probably best to leave it home if you're going out on the lash.
This one was early 70s so presumably not the same model or movement.

Hey have we ever discussed the most prestigious horological events of the year, the Invicta cruise? youtu.be/_hncGs1FvxoSee you poolside!! I'd go to that, it's like Argos just unloaded their entire watch catalogue onto a boat and invited Whitley along.

Apparently the ink on the case of the moonswatch comes off on your wrist after a day of wear
