The end game is him staying in power so he doesn't go to jail.

Naturally it's the late Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.

I actually do think he's banking on perpetual war.
He has been a long term right wing militant ethno-nationaist. That's always been his USP to the Israelis after Rabin's peace deal fell apart.
As with all such people, they reject the idea of compromise and accomodation, but they stop short of spelling out what the alternative would actually entail.

To this country rube it seems like the end game is the logical conclusion to ‘every Palestinian is a potential member of Hamas so…’ but nobody wants to say it out loud.
It’s just really weird. They know it, we know it and everyone is just letting them get on with it.

Well, that's the thing, innit? Saying it out loud makes it explicit and nobody wants to be seen to say that, as it would make it very difficult to to claim the moral high-ground.
It's the same with the anti-immigration and anti asylum-seeker talk. If they don't come here, where are they going to go? And no, "sending them back to France" is not an option. If only because, guess what, France is a country just like us too. So why should they take it all?
I suspect at a fundamental, un-articulated level the real answer is they wished these people would just not exist. Which is obviously stupid, so it all gets coded in double speak and dog whistles.

Ooooh, that's a tantalising new page. WHICH GLOBAL LEADER AM I TALKING ABOUT, EH It is a sad timeline we live in, that "which global leader is clinging to power so they don't go to fucking jail" is a legitimate question with multiple answers...

It's to be expected. People are voting on emotion and for parties that offer easy solutions for complex issues especially when they talk about being against the establishment when they are ironically by people from the establishment. Obviously voters don't look at the small print which calls for lower corporation tax and less wage protection or their solidarity with Putin and against Ukraine.
As always follow the money to answer how these initially small parties are suddenly punching above weight campaigning wise.

100 years is getting near enough to forget what happened, or to actively try to paper over the two big wars in Europe last century.

It seems very British to me that most of the comments are brits requesting that Russia be sure to take out their shitty area as well.

I like that the cover of the US Miltary-produced welcome pack looks like a ten-year-old's holiday snap PowerPoint.

'Hamas leader' in Lebanon killed by Israel was UN employee, UNWRA confirms
can't say I'm surprised

That article is a bit circular. Israel killed a UNWRA employee* they claim is a Hamas leader, so Israel will seize on the confirmation that the UNWRA employee was an UNWRA employee as evidence of links between UNWRA and Hamas.
*and his wife and kids, but at this point I guess we're all immune to that.

I fully agree. Ukraine needs to be free to strike deep into the country

The Putin regime is very obviously helping out extremist political parties across the globe while actively sabotaging factories and other facilities to hinder military production for Ukraine. The time for clutching pearls and fretting about what Russia may do is long over, let Ukraine fight back in full.
