Been watching, of all things, Rimmy the Aussie Youtuber (of ARMA comedy vids fame) who started/was streaming before the invasion actually started. Been mainly verifying accounts, calling out old clips, "no China not invading Taiwan" to the idiots..

But the amount of info that's openly available and trackable is crazy. Watching a US drone circling the Black Sea, B-52s moving to circle above Warsaw and Stockholm, kinda mental. Livemaps was his main thing with markers of every reported incident through various channels etc. Information warfare indeed.

I'm near the Permanent Joint HQ in Northwood, so always assumed we'd get one of the first nukes.

I usually don't look into these threads, but sadly this will be remembered as a historic moment and felt like I did wanted to clear my head a bit by writing on this forum.

While I have always had a small amount of sympathy for Russian anger towards ignored agreements between Nato/US and its border security, I already condemmed their invasion of Georgia years ago as a start of more offensses. Back then their army actually was badly prepared and barely functioned. The time was then to contain Russia but for unknown reasons they got off entirely. I feel this strenghtend the current mindset seen in the krim and donbass conflict.

Now, they have a modernized army and a close relation to a superpower China willing to buy their gas and any lost trade at a cut price. Any sanctions will hurt, but none will matter enough. I don't think they will take the whole country, but Russia will take the entire coastline, connect transnistria and take most of the East. Leaving a severely weakened and destroyed Ukraine as a buffer state. Worst comes to worst, Poland won't accept Russia as a direct neighbour and will send troops to the most eastern part to create a buffer zone.

I hope all countries in the EU lend aid to any refugees and finally make a comprehensive plan to give them proper shelter and even mid term opportunities in their countries. I know I will at least help some refugees if they need help through volunteering.

I hadn't realised Vitali Klitschko was Mayor of Kyiv. Hopefully we get to see him taking out dozens of Russian soldiers with a shashka before gradually being overwhelmed and succumbing to his injuries.

Seen a few reports that they are fighting around Chernobyl and parts of the facility have been damaged. I don't know how on the nose 'you couldn't make it up' is for that just yet. But you'd hope it's bullshit.
