In the last few hours images have been circulating on social media, reportedly showing missile fragments from the scene of the attack in Poland.
The BBC has been unable to verify these pictures, but we've spoken to three defence experts about what they show.
Mark Cancian, from think tank CSIS, believes it may be from an S-300 system. This type of missile is typically used for surface-to-air attacks, and has been used by both Russia and Ukraine throughout the war. Image of alleged missile fragment TwitterCopyright: Twitter
"Who fired the missile is unclear," says J Andrés Gannon, a security expert at the US Council on Foreign Relations, who agrees that it may be from an S-300 system.
That's the text from BBC site. Until it's been established if they are Ukrainian or Russian missiles it's important not to refer to them as Russian missiles (which is exactly what the press are doing).

Unfortunately the news is already around the world before the facts have got their trousers on. It's always the case now.

The facts should just stay in bed and get stoned at this point, waste of time getting dressed.

Polish Foreign Ministry confirming it was a Russian made missile. Where it was fired from still unclear. Poland prob call for Article 4, which is to just talk about what to do next. Doubt it was an intentional missile attack but it's Putin, he can deny it and still be happy at the results.

The fact the missile was Russian made doesn't mean it was fired by Russia.

Poland and Nato now believe it was a Ukraine missile, and unintentional.

At least none of the press jumped to the conclusion that it was a Russian fired missile.

I'm starting to get the vague idea that Putin withdrew all the troops because he intends to freeze Ukraine to death.

It's basically impossible to easily move heavy armor around during winter, in that part of the world. So keep enough people in to hold the territory you've taken, move the rest out to rest and resupply, then restart the war in spring.

Extra points for bombing the enemies' energy grid so they have to spend the winter below freezing. Don't know how long Putin can keep it up, but Ukraine seems generally powerless against missile strikes, so I fear they are gonna go on for quite a while.

They cost about 2 million per missile fired and once the power is gone won't achieve much. Ukrainian people will use fires to keep warm whilst Russia burns through a huge pile of cash.

When the far right took power here in Italy two months ago, I was like, this is gonna suck but let's give them the benefit of doubt, at least wait until the spending review is out.
Now the spending review is basically out, and it sucks even worse than I thought. And who the hell still wants to make that damn bridge over the strait?

It's looking better than the last time the right was properly in power with Berlusconi. This time they're actually having issues between the majority parties. Berlusconi kept everyone in line. So we might see them crash before the 5 year limit.

Mostly because I can't remember the last time someone managed to stay around that long. But Meloni is getting a lot of support herself. Dunno if it will be enough, but it will bolster her audacity for sure.

It'd have been bloody impressive if 25 people could have overthrown the entire country.

Haha that is fucking spectacular. It's just like when the Goonies found gems in a bag and their dad ripped up the contract papers with the mean old land developer.

Just seen a couple of prominent Russian millionaires have both fallen out of their hotel rooms. They really need to improve the reliability of windows in Russia.

This isn't really news, but I'm... actually kind of happy with Anthony Albanese, our new(ish) Prime Minister? It feels weird to say it, but he seems like a decent bloke who is not, or at least does not appear to be, a complete sociopath.
It's not enough to make me feel 100% positive about the country and the direction it is going, but it is something. Baby steps and all that.

The trouble is, give it a year and the election campaign and mudslinging will begin again, limiting what he can actually achieve.
