The 512gb version doesn't seem worth it when you look at cost difference between the 1tb version

Anyone openly admiting to buying the 2TB one is just trying to humblebrag about being a rich git.

Maybe they secretly won the euromillions. What are you, Jeremy Corbyn?

Nice... Just got two of the 2TB models. Going to use one as a doorstop.

So the 4k dashboard has started rolling out today.
Also a spew of new features, the one I am most excited about is being able to lower the brightness on the controller and console. I play in darkness so this is welcome news as the controller light is super bright in a dark room.

Ooh 4K shiny...now slightly regretting the Series S. Surely even the S can handle a UI in 4k? It's hardly the most taxing thing to do. An Intel CPU with onboard graphics can show the Windows desktop in 4k.

MS not giving nice things to the Series S peasants 🤣

I guess because it goes against the whole marketing spiel of the Series S being a 1440p machine. Why would they spend time desiging a 4k dashboard if the people buying it dont have 4k screens!
If you do have a 4k screen, then this poses the question of why did you buy a Series S?

Series S does render some games in 4K (like Ori), so it's not entirely a 1440p machine.

Exactly my reasoning. I wanted a gamepass machine so I could still enjoy games from developers Microsoft have snapped up and the Series S is great value.
I've got a PS5 for all my 4K needs, this covers everything else.

That was my intention but I really should have bought a series x and left it at that.

I suffer from severe FOMO so that's why I knew I wasn't going to be happy getting an S or a PS5 digital.

If you do have a 4k screen, then this poses the question of why did you buy a Series S? Because it was a cheap and available game pass device. For things that really benefit from 4k (forza horizon 5 is likely the first,) I'll play those on my PC.

I think it would make sense to have a 4K dashboard for Series S users though, since that resolution is available for them too.
In fact, they should have a 1440p dashboard as well. Is it really that difficult for them to just match the output resolution? It's not like there are many.

It's the same performance and the same games. Do you mean you'd worry about missing out on physical sales, or not watching Blu-rays? If I was getting a PS5 and no other consoles, I'd get a physical one too, but now I've got a Series X I'd be happy with a digital PS5. In fact, I kinda wish they'd pull a Series S and release a cut-down cheaper 1080p machine.

I've got a PS5 for all my 4K needs, this covers everything else. Same here. My PS5 is plugged into the main 4K TV in the living room. The Series S is on a 1080p screen in the kids’ room. And the Switch goes wherever. I basically use the S almost entirely for Gamepass / free to play stuff my son likes (Fortnite). Any game I actually want to buy will be bought for the PlayStation 5. And the Switch is for Nintendo games, obviously.

My Series X is plugged into my 1080p tv in the lounge, my One X is plugged into a 4k monitor in my office. I plugged it in a couple of days after the Series X launched and to date I have been too busy to actually turn it on.

Getting to that time of year again. Deep into Far Cry 6 and I've never played Skyrim so I think that (Anniversary edition) and Halo Infinite are going to be the only two games I'll get for the rest of the year.

Apparently my Series X was updated to the 4K dashboard 3 days ago and I didn't event notice. Yes, I have a 4K TV, but it's the 48" LG CX, so maybe because it's a smaller OLED resolution bumps aren't quite as noticeable at a distance.
Also - as I already knew from early reports - not all aspects of the dashboard are 4K. That said, I can understand game imagery not all being 4K yet (this may even be down to what the developers supply for each game) but Microsoft's own icons (used on interface tiles) don't appear to be scalable vector graphics... they seem to rasterised images of a set size.
The 'settings' cog icon, for example, has clear pixellation on my dash. Bit of a poor show really.

I understood parts of that If we eventually get to choose how many icons go across the screen in a group, that will do me. 7 is just so wrong. Well that and a black background, without the 'and game art' bit.

I read somewhere that switching a series X controller between a Bluetooth connection to PC and the Xbox had been made simple, but I can't for the life of me make it work.
Apparently I double tab the sync button to revert to Xbox but the controller just blinks trying to secure a Bluetooth connection which will never happen as the PC is switched off.
What am I getting wrong?

Well that and a black background, without the 'and game art' bit. A normal image is made of a set amount of pixels, so when it's made bigger than the set amount of pixels that make up the image, the pixels must grow and become blocky... pixellation. This doesn't happen with vector graphics because they're basically described by maths (ratios, angles, etc) so you can scale them to whatever size you like and they'll always look sharp. It's the same principle for fonts, so they can scale without losing sharpness. This has been common practice on the web and interfaces for years, so it's surprising Microsoft are still using images for some icons.

Thank you The annoying thing with the 7 icons is that across the very top of the UI, where it shows games recently played, that is 6 icons, which is fine. However they seem to have chosen 4 (too big) and 10 (too small) as min and max for pins, so imagine 7 is just right, but it isn't, it is just wrong.

Question regarding the rewards program.
If you have lots of points saved up and then activate the automatic redemption of the £5 gift card, do they just issue 1x gift card each month or will you get ALL the gift cards using up ALL your points balance?
I ask because I think there is a time limit to use the gift cards, so I would want ALL the gift cards at once.

You can immediately get as many gift cards as your points allow. Not sure what automatic redemption means.
And yes, gift currency expires after 90 days.

malek86 There is a cheaper "auto redeem" option (5500ish vs 5800ish) for the gift cards alongside the standard purchase options.
