That being said if anyone has anything bad to say about Bottas I will cut you. That guy is just the best.

I'm definitely in the "fuck Max" camp, but not to the point where it's tarnishing any given race. I've been watching since the mid-90s, so it's not like I haven't seen my fair share of "heroes" and "villains" in my time. I was definitely more invested in the top three qualifiers yesterday because Max wasn't in there, but had he been in the mix it wouldn't have ruined my day. He's probably going to toast them all on lap 1 today anyways. My big hope for the season is that at least one other team can get themselves properly in the mix, and I'd love to see more of the number 2 drivers asserting themselves - a four or six horse race rather than a two or three horse race. For the first time in a while, with all the new rules, almost anything could happen. Different circuit types are going to highlight flaws in the various designs, etc. etc. So Max is far from the biggest deal this year anyway*. * I still hope he ends the year on nil points, though.

I thought he was strangely cautious in his battles with Leclerc actually, as Jolyon Palmer mentioned in his analysis. Especially into turn 4.

F2 race has been pretty good so far. Amazingly, we've done 18 laps with no SC.
Turn 1/2 have been well policed. Sensible penalties given for leaving the track and maintaining/failing to cede an advantage. Good to see. Bodes well for later.

The Leclerc/Max battle was good, Max was close but not over the line in terms of lunging from a long way back (rather than alongside in the braking zone). Charles left the door open and Max just about made the apex so it was acceptable in my book. It was a good sign they both left enough space within the white lines.
Charles was very fair wheel to wheel in F2 and carried that into F1. Then he had that incident with Max at Austria and took from it that he'd been naive and needed to be much more aggressive himself. He's on record as saying he would change how he raced and has talked up 'hard racing' ever since. As I've said before, it's not the direction I think F1 should be going in.
In any case Leclerc is likely going to meet fire with fire, and just like Hamilton won't be intimidated. I'm just hoping the stewards do a better job of actually keep things in check this year. I don't want Leclerc driving Max off the track any more than vice versa.
If they are side by side into T1 tonight it will be very interesting.

I almost posted that the chances of the SCs greatly reduced with Mick and Yuki missing the start. Forgot that Latifi loves an accident as well.

Come on Red Bull, tell Checo to give that place back. Do the right thing.

Come on Red Bull, tell Checo to give that place back. Do the right thing. The race director should have told RB to give the place back under SC. Red Bull basically banked a lasting advantage by having Sergio protect Max on the restart before letting him through. Very harsh on Sergio but that wasn't cricket.

They didn't get a chance to pit though.

Their entire strategy was to gamble on a late safety car and then they didn't pit.

They didn't get a chance to pit though. Did you not see the replay? It was open when Hamilton went past first time. It's just the call from the pitwall was too late.

Good race. Shame Max got the win, especially with the constant moaning on the radio but that Ferrari will keep them on their toes.

That was great. Fair play, the track undeniably good for racing. So unlucky for Charles. Don't think he quite had the pace of the Red Bull but without that yellow in T1 in lap 48 he might have still snatched it.
Enjoyed that a lot.
