The merc powered cars is odd. Red bull making them look silly after they were accused of "neglecting" 22

Fair play Checo. Normally does his best work on race day, super lap. Ferraris looking great though.

That's a fun grid. Pleased for Checo. Hopefully he gets the prime strategy if he's the front runner for RB.
I also hope red bull remember their own bizarre rule that you're not allowed to celebrate if a driver has gone to hospital for a check up, even if you've heard they are ok.

So today we've learned:
1. Saudi is an unsafe country to hold a race. 2. The circuit itself is unsafe to hold a race regardless of which country it's in. 3. Checo is a lovely human being. 4. Max needs to cool his shit when things aren't going his way. 5. That Merc engine clearly has issues looking at the bottom 5.

4. Max needs to cool his shit when things aren't going his way. What did he do this time? After his first hot lap in Q3 his team radio was: "WTF guys, these shit tires give me no grip!" Reporting lack of grip is fine, ranting at your team who are trying to help you unlock that performance is counterintuitive at best. At worst it makes your colleagues resent you and your opponents think you are panicking.

Maybe he's just saying the tires are shit.

Maybe he's just saying the tires are shit. He is. Others did too, but without sounding like they were panicking or blaming their pit crews.

Quite excited for today's race. The potential is there for a good fight at the front.
Let's hope the Race Director doesn't ruin it with inconsistent decisions. Lot of pressure on them at this track.
Feels a bit like this year's drama has made people forget just how bad driving standards were here a few months ago. Liberties in the first chicane (unsafe rejoins especially), dodgy safety car restarts and dangerous driving around the DRS detection line.
I really don't want a repeat of that race.

It's staggering that Verstappen only got a 5-second penalty for jabbing the brakes in the middle of a straight with another car on his gearbox.

If he didn’t make Q2 we wouldn’t hear the end of it There is - but it's an agenda that's built up from things he's actually done rather than a preconceived agenda. Largely his interest in various driving approaches that completely kill racing. It used to be swerving around in the braking zone to block people from getting past - last year it was just not bothering to turn into corners whenever someone was overtaking him on the outside.

I dislike both Hamilton and Verstappen equally, but most champions are pretty unlikeable when competing at the top. Alonso, Prost, Senna, Schumacher, etc...
I hated Vettel too at his peak, but he has since grown to be an absolute legend.

Turkey 2020 was a big turning point for me and my attitude towards F1. If you can't appreciate that I don't know what you're doing even watching it. I just don't see the point in hate watching it, even of the person you're not particularly a fan of comes home in 1st. I wouldn't credit myself as much of a Max fan either but I can appreciate his genius at times whereas in the past I would have just spent an hour and a half unsuccessfully waiting for him to break down (except last week, amirite?)
I'm still buzzing off those laps from Perez and Leclerc yesterday. That's the stuff I find time for now, not tuning in to root against people.

I absolutely have an 'agenda' against Max. Now that Mazepin has gone, he's the only driver I dislike. As 111 said, it's not because he's successful, it's because of things he's done and is derived from the way he's driven since entering the sport.
He's incredibly talented and fast, but his racecraft is abysmal and based on 2021, getting worse. He has consistently tried to bully other drivers on track and off. His driving annoys me most because it is 'anti-racing' but the off-track stuff reveals more about his character. Shoving Ocon in Brazil, calling Stroll a 'mong' in Portugal (he'd been told not to use this offensive term the previous year), he's rude to the press if they dare ask him awkward questions, and he's rude to his team on the radio. Nothing's ever his fault and he's never wrong (even when every other driver has the opposite view in the driver's briefing) and he shows minimal interest in anything other than himself. Of course lots of successful sportsmen are like this. He's the diet Lance Armstrong of F1 (without the drugs).
Equally, people can change, and from the sounds of it, Jos was far from a great role model and is almost certainly responsible for the kind of guy his son is. Max could mature and become a more likable sportsman in time, but he's got a long way to go and it seems as though he's surrounded by people that play to his base instincts rather than challenge him. Seeing as he's now tied to Marko, Horner et al for another 5 years, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm with you on not watching to root against people - that would be weird, does anyone actually do this? Personally, it's more like there are 19 drivers that I can feel pleased (to varying degrees) if they do well and one who I'd rather didn't. I don't hate the bloke, he's just 20/20 on my list of preferred winners for any given GP. Even when Max wins, I can enjoy a good race. Just have to remember to reach for that mute button after the checkered flag before Horner calls through on team radio!

Gonna be a long 10-15 years to get through as the simple reality is that he's very, very good. He had a great and, more importantly, fair battle with Leclerc last week so it's probably better looking to the future rather than the past. Apparently we're not supposed to do that anyway.
