FIA awaiting official report from SA government.
If they cancel it that would be a hell of a result for mercedes. Podium at the first race and then a four week swing from bahrain.

I'd be surprised if the teams and drivers will be easily fobbed off by hollow reassurances. Might be like Melbourne 2020 when it needed Mclaren to be the first to say 'we aren't racing' and then the whole thing quickly collapsed.

F1 teams can't even fuck off out of Dodge as the airspace is closed.

Just do 2 laps behind the safety car through the rubble lads so we can call it a race.

So as I read it:
Stefano managed to buy off the team principles relatively easily.
The drivers were keen on a boycott until it was made abundantly clear that if they don't race they'll be unable to leave the country for a considerable period of time like the wrestlers a couple of years ago.
Essentially they've been strongarmed/blackmailed into continuing to race.
I wonder if any of the drivers will be brave enough to say what really went down, after they've safely left the country of course. Doing it now would be unwise.

Doohan just creamed into the back of Sergeant under the safety car due to not paying sufficient attention.
This track ruthlessly punishes mistakes. Problem is it also punishes the viewer with hours of safety cars.

Hauger the latest driver to be screwed over by rubbish communication from the FIA during a safety car period.

They should all just orchestrate a safe 20 car pileup at the start, pack up and go home.

10sec stop go for Hauger for going through the pitlane when it was closed. Except, Prema asked twice because they were confused about being asked to go through a closed pits and the race director still told them to go through them. Then referred him to the stewards for good measure. Total bullshit.
Another serious Race Director mistake so soon is not ideal. To then doubly punish the driver (he'd already lost 12 positions) rather than admit you've made a mistake is pathetic.
I guess the lesson is ignore the race director and only go by the LED boards which is fine, but what if they malfunction?

I don't really understand what the drivers were told. Effectively "race or we'll keep you as hostages"?

I have to keep reminding myself this is a purpose built race track.
What sort of idiot builds a fast 'street' circuit with no service roads and hardly any access points to remove debris and cars? The consequences are inevitable.
Two safety cars and an unrelated VSC in a 20 lap sprint race!

This track is a fucking deathtrap. Really hope the drivers are just waiting to step off the plane home before announcing they'll never come back again.

Who needs to worry about missile strikes when you've got the comfort of concrete barriers either side of a dusty, high speed shithole.

This is a computer game track. Brilliant fun to drive but the risk to actual living breathing humans is just too much.

Sky doing their best to whitewash everything. I don't think I've ever heard Johnny Herbert have anything other than a god awful take over any situation. He's dreadful.

Regarding Hamilton, it's quite reminiscent of Monaco last year when he just completely failed to get the tyres to work and was miles off Bottas. Might just be tyres and confusion again.
