He's started pretty well. On the pace on his second flying lap!
I'm pretty confident he'll be quick enough (not this weekend, given lack of prep I expect he'll be a fair way off Leclerc) but in general he's a rapid driver. Where he lacks in F2 sometimes is wheel to wheel. He's quite good one vs one but when he's in a pack he often struggles to balance attacking and defending and gets shuffled back behind slower cars. I can see him struggling at the start and on safety car restarts. He does also make his fair share of mistakes (he's 18) and it'll be oh so easy just to take slightly too much curb or nudge a barrier and bend a wishbone.
If he can finish, that's a good achievement. If he can finish not last that's the mark of a real talent. If he can finish in the points he's a potential superstar.

That red flag might be it for FP3.
So Bearman will probably be going into Qualifying with all of 17 laps under his belt having never tried the soft tyres, and never driven round here at night (seeing as F2 always runs earlier in the day).
As steep learning curves go, this one is vertical.

His longer run looked okay. I reckon he can beat the Alpines, Sargeant and maybe Magnussen if he starts ahead of him tomorrow. Field spread is so low these days in qualifying that Q2 is a big ask.

It's amusing that just one race after Lewis Hamilton (age 39, 333 GP starts) signed to become the first English F1 driver since 1991, he gets pipped to it by Ollie Bearman (age 18, 0 GP starts).

Didn't they say about he has some restriction of movement, because they put more padding in, due to neck muscles?

That's a really commendable lap from Bearman. The only real metric to judge him this weekend is against himself and he seems to be improving lap after lap.

He's always been immediately competitive. Won several F4 series at first attempt, immediately quick in F3 and F2 too.
This is a whole different ball game of course, and I have no idea how he's keeping his head together.

If he bins it into the wall and loses any parts, it comes out of Sainz' allocation so that must be factoring into his driving to at least some extent too. Anything beyond what he's just done is now a bonus imo.

I'm so nervous for him. If you watch his onboard camera he's not exactly smooth and cautious, he's chucking it about and catching it. It's really hard to watch.
God knows what Sainz and Bearman senior are thinking.

It's times like this you can appreciate how good these drivers are. Faster car, different braking points, whole different system/way of working and not to mention the mountain size of pressure hes under.... Up to pace within a matter of laps....

He's having a hard time at that same corner. Seems to be catching a lot of people out it looks awkward as fuck to navigate.

I mean fair play to Ollie for attacking and having the confidence in his own ability but I'm not sure if this is brave or foolish.

Oof, great effort.
If he had all 3 practice sessions instead of the 4 minutes he's had in the car he'd have got into Q3 no trouble.

Ah, that lap he lost for the red flag as he was going round the final corner was nip and tuck with Hamilton's time. Still not sure he would have been much higher than 10th in Q3 anyway. Within half a second of Charles and didn't crash. Great effort considering.

Hamilton seems to have checked out. Russell absolutely fucked a better grid slot as well.

Marko is 80 years old so I'm assuming he literally used his own personal Gmail account to set up that Google Drive.

"Drive to Divorce" - only on Netflix The shitshow off the track is more exciting than the racing. Continues to be accurate.

At this point I wouldn't be suprised if max walks from the sport at the end of next year or even end of this season.
What a mess, maybe red bull think they don't need max anymore with a car that good. With perez's performances I would beg to differ.
Max has always had a vocal opinion on not liking the new tracks and amount of races. He clearly is interested in other racing series so be interesting to see how it goes.
Cant see him going to merc at all, he might be tempted to give the audi project a go but reckon he's more likely to do a rosberg.

Marko and the Verstappens are bullies and I won't be sorry to see them go.
However in reality what's far more likely is management shakeup at Red Bull and/or Max going to Mercedes if there's actually a break clause. I quite want to see it happen as it'd be his first highly rated teammate since Ricciardo.
He also has plenty of money to buy himself out of his contract if he really wants to. He's unlikely to be genuinely trapped if there's no Marko clause as rumoured.
Perez is a long way off Max but he was a fairly comfortable second in the Championship and given he had the most second places to Max would have won the title with races to spare. Red Bull only need Max to a point, it's not like he's dragging the car to unearned success.

Weird end to the F1A race today.
Pin didn't seem to see the chequered flag or hear her team and just carried on at full racing speed for a full extra lap and a bit. They eventually red flagged it just to get her to stop! Don't think I've ever seen that before. Apparently that's normally a DQ, but no penalty announced yet.
Hamilton only F1 driver making time to watch trackside and attend the podium again.

This is a truly abysmal race track. Doesn't help that tyre deg is virtually non existent on this compound range.

MBS must have woken up and decided Norris shouldn't be punished today instead of Alonso. The jump start was sketchy enough but that weaving was a bit over the line.

Bearman's just beaten Norris and Hamilton, doing a 42 lap stint on unfamiliar tyre management in a barely familiar car. Legendary debut.
