It was definitely warm yesterday. Didn't need to put a jacket on to go out. Not really normal for January.

Yeah, had to pop out in a hurry just wearing a hoodie (trousers too, you sickos!) and realised I would've even been ok in a t-shirt. Glad from a temporary cheap central heating perspective, but not looking good for the bigger picture.

9:30pm and it's 29°c with 100% humidity. Also completely still, which is very, very unusual for Wellington.

Hottest summer in Japan since records began. (150 odd years ago I think) Apparently in Tokyo 2010 was hotter, but nationally it's the hottest.
And it was horrible in Tokyo. Basically spent the entire summer inside with the AC running almost 24/7.
Even places like beaches and water parks had their attendance more than 50% down because it was too hot to go to the beach.
It's thankfully cooled down a bit this week. Was only 32 degrees today (with a RealFeel of 38 in the sun).

I hate the heat, and I wish I was at an ice hockey game.

Apparently it was a toasty September (and muted August) in 2021 too… but I don't recall it too well.

It was hot like this exactly 11 years ago.
I had a Facebook reminder from a post on 5th September 2012.
Anyway I'm delighted, a week of blue skies and sun when I was expecting grey and cold. Woooooo!

The blue skies are nice, the 28 degrees temperature isn't.
Hope it's not like this when I'm doing that fucking 20 mile walk next week. Nice bit of drizzle would be perfect for that.

I'm in the city Friday night for Rugby WC opening game. NZ v France.
A week of el scorch weather at this time of the year means Friday and Saturday are likely to be drunken chaos.

I would be quite happy to go back to 2012. Or even further. Quite a few things I'd do differently.
...
Anyway that weather, hey?

I'd quite like to go back to about 2005, things seemed to be really getting better, I was getting off my tits most nights, saving a shit load of money every month, things seemed to be really positive in life, generally having a blast, then 2009 hit and it's gradually got worse ever since.

I think if I went back to 2012 I would emigrate and be done with it. Consecutive years saying next year will be better, can do one.

I could go back to about 2002 and I'd basically make entirely different choices.

Got to travel to London for an all day meeting tomorrow which I’m not looking forward to at all. I run hot even during the colder months so I expect that I’ll arrive looking like I’ve swam there
Might travel in just my underpants and change when I get to Euston

I went for a walk this lunchtime for the first time in months, and didn't feel like death. 29-30 degrees and nice and sunny.
The late-summer / early-autumn is usually lovely, except for all the typhoons.
It's a shame that the summer is getting longer and the spring/autumn is getting shorter.
